Cascading delays and reverbs
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:19:09 PM »
Take note, I can't get high end delays and reverbs yet so the tonal/textural options from an Eventide Space are out of the question for now. Anyway, does anyone here like cascading delays (two delays on at the same time) or reverbs (two reverbs)?

Well, somewhat in line, but I do like a certain "combo" I have of running my delay into the reverb. But the reverb's set at a sort  of "echo" or delay setting too (on a "dual reverb" setting). Great for large ethereal soundscapes. :D

But yeah, I believe I may have experimented with delay + delay before. I can't remember much though. A guy whose blog I follow loves cascading his old trusty Arion SAD-1 (analog delay) with some more delay or reverb. And from what I've heard, it does sound great.

Current setup is kind of geared towards a lot of "pad sounding guitar" parts. I run my Boss PS-2 delay into an EHX Holy Stain and a Hardwire Reverb. The Stain is around 60-70% wet and the amount is set to 100%, using this for volume swell and tremolo picking parts. I'm using the Hardwire for either modulated or gated reverb. Sounds massive with dirt, sounds almost pad-like clean.

Cascaded delays are workable. But it becomes really challenging if you need them to be synced to the beat of whatever song it is you are playing.

Cascading reverbs, sure. It gets particularly spacey when I do that with the Line 6 M9's Octo and Particle verbs on at the same time.

I use my multi's reverb always on and add rv-3 for the really spacey stuff. Using a delay before a long reverb works well with the volume swell thing because it prolongs the sustain.

This is an awesome effect that I've been trying to master ever since I started listening to shoegaze & ambient music. I've seen a demo done by a fellow PhilMusic member (nineworkz) using a Subzero ADD pedal & a Boss delay.

Still trying to master it with the gear I have at the moment. Yung problem ko is the difference between analog & digital. I've never had my hands grasp an analog delay, so I don't know what the certain tonal "warmth" difference of it is in comparison to digital. But that's OT.

Awesome work Sir! What's your recording technique, if it's alright to ask?

Pedalboard > interface > Guitar Rig. All the effects are from my pedals tho. I only use clean amps on Guitar Rig.

Cool, thanks for sharing the info Sir. I had equalization problems with recording my dumb demos. I'm getting too OT. Thanks again! :)

Yeah, pad sounds are great. Do you run them in stereo some times?

For some reason, there are these little nuances that I can only hear in stereo. Extra little artifacts from the reverb.

But wait, I play guitar in a three guitar band. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ARRANGE THE AMPS? Also, do I need another amp (no, idiot. you need a stroller)? D:

but it will be fun! haha I see then. Maybe it would be overkill to run stereo.

Do try it when you're alone though :D
