Creating a great remix is not dictated by a DAW. The choice of DAW will define how easy it is go through your workflow though. Most of the established producer/remixers use Logic Pro, Sonar, and Ableton Live.

In the meantime, not to hijack your thread but you can attend our upcoming Electronic Dance Music Conference. We have a full day of remixing workshop on the 3rd day. This is NOT a MASHUP nor RE-EDITING remix workshop. We will teach you how to create a track with just an acapella using virtual instruments and effects. However, this is more like an advance class because great remixing can only be achieved if u know how to produce. Nowadays people speak about remixing, without really knowing what theyre talking about. Remixing is not just slapping two or three songs together and call it a remix, or chop a track and extend it and call it a remix.

Here's the link to the site. Some of the best Pinoy remixers wil be doing the talk. Hope to see u there.

Reaper. It is light, but decent. And pretty easy-to-understand too for anyone who's just starting.
