guthrie is the pro's pro, but personally i'll go for greg howe.  love his style.  groovy, bouncy, fluid.  his playing is  personal, i can tell its him when i hear it, can't say the same w/ guthrie.  though technically adept, yet his playing still has that hint of 'self-taught',quirky sound/thing/whatever.  i prefer that over the too schooled sound of guthrie, not to say its bad though.
I see traces, fragments of God shared in the form of human talent...

AFAIK self-taught din si guthrie...well, to me he sounds fresh/new to my ears than any other great guitar player these days...pero syempre kanya-kanyang taste lang talaga yan...i like greg howe as well  :)

Greg howe for simple yet powerful feel and melody.  :)

But for more technical playing + grooves guthrie  :-D
