im a bass player, so what i usually do is get off the stage and ask the band to play one of those big ending crescendos, cymbals and guitars blasting ... i use that as a basis for how loud my bass will be.

then i let the singer sing while i check out the sound from a distance, and then that is how we set out overall volume ... it is really important to base the sound off the singer, although most of the time, your band's overall volume is pretty much dictated on how hard your drummer hits (the more control he has, the better).

you know its too loud when you cant hear the singer cause of the guitars - guitars are usually what causes volume wars. it makes the drummer hit louder, the singer scream/strain her voice and the bassist inaudible (poor bassist, he always ends up with the crappiest amplification known to man)

always start with the vox, and then the instruments' volumes should follow. sana marunong magvolume down din drummer nyo :)

no pic, no advise...

I'll experiment with amp placement sir. thanks!

It has that flexibility of going loud or low. Pag sinagad mo kasi volume ng solid state, say the 30 watts, to be heard may possibility na masakit sa tenga. Most likely kaya nagcomplain ng too loud is because mataas na volume at di na maganda tunog. Unlike having a lot of wattage potential, kahit pahinaan o palakasin (wag lang sagarin), mataas volume at di masakit. Rinig pa rin. Pero pag 30 watts all tube yan ok yan palakasin.

it sounds like i said it ... if the guitarist gets a 75 watt line 6 spider, the bassists get a 30 watt laney RB. if the guitarists get a 30 watt marshall, bassists gets a karaoke amp

Explains why our bassist brings his heavy amp every time...............:(

OT Next gig: open-air jam. Frankly I'm scared, I've witnessed horrible disorienting "sound rebounds" esp. the bass drum
