Hi, my take on this is that save your money and get the best preamp you can afford. I used to have the VTB-1 but it also fall
short to my expectation, all low cost tube preamp and the others are all working on a starve mode though it may give you
warm but still seems a little short on headroom and s/n ratio. if you have a low cost interface for your recording then definitely
you dont want to go cheap with your preamp, it gives warm and also a nice coloration to the sound. I currently use focusrite
voicemaster pro, very good sounding, I save enough money to get one, but if you still want to go for low cost, go for behringer
tube preamp, its warm sounding preamp.
