Line 6 DL4 or TCE Flashback X4 (Delay Shootout)
« on: May 19, 2015, 09:39:51 AM »
Need your insights mga tol!

Line 6 DL4 or TCE Flashback X4??

I've read some reviews about TCE Flashback X4 being superior than DL4 but I also saw some negative feedback about the X4.

The DL4, as most people say is tried and tested, but the X4 really gives you more flexibility.

My music is a mix of genres, from post-rock to post-metal, Ambient to Progressive rock/metal, doom, sludge, alt-metal, etc.

My influences: Isis, Deftones, Tool, Team Sleep, A Perfect Circle, Mogwai, Pelican, Failure, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, etc.

So, I'm looking for a delay pedal that will give me enough texture without losing the balance. (I really hope I'm making sense, hehehe!)

I just want to somehow get close to the sound my influences make. (I'm really trying to nail that Isis' sound)

Any will help be appreciated!

Thanks PhilMusic!

The DL4 is an outdated pedal for me. the DL4 has no note subdivisions for tap tempo. definitely a deal breaker for me.

IMHO, all the sounds in the DL4 are in the Flashback. plus you get the toneprint function which is not available in the DL4.

only deal breaker for the FlashbackX4 is the lack of a modulation adjustment knob. they offer an iOS App to edit your TonePrints and in that app, you can adjust the modulation rate so i guess its not so bad.

all in all, I would get the flashback x4. less hassle pa sa PSU as line6 uses different PSU units.

That's what they say on most reviews nga sir!

user issue yun sir most prob, or lemon yung nakuha nyang unit. kasi ako lagi ako nag eedit ng patch sa flashback ko, just wait for the light to finish blinking and yun na. saved na yung preset. no problems for me so far. swabeng swabe.

i've used a DL4 before, and honestly, nung time na yun, iba talaga si DL4. ang ganda lang nung tunog niya. circa 2010 ata to.

pero, lahat nung tones from the DL4, nakuha ko naman sa flashback.

lastly, 2290 w/ mod is just love. <3

What do you mean by lemon sir??

Balak ko na kumuha ng Flashback X4. Tingin mo bagay to sa post-rock/post-metal?

And sir, about sa toneprint editor, free app ba yun na pwede ko lagay sa ipad?

How about the cables, and other stuff to connect the X4 into an ipad? included na ba yun?

pero excited at the same time. hahahaha!

definitely bagay sa postrock/ambient stuff. lemon as in, one in a million na may diperensyang ganun.

no cables paps kasi binibeam mo yung toneprint from ipad to your flashback through soundwaves. search mo sa youtube kung pano ginagawa. nakakaelibs. hahahaha

yung sa toneprint editor, you might need an apple camera connecting kit kung mag edit ka via iPad na app. meron din kasing desktop version yung toneprint app. and yes, freeware siya. no charge to download :)

mura na at 10k kung mint condish with box and cables and goodies. 14k kuha ko sakin eh. pero bnew yun tska nung bago pa si Flashback last year hahaha.

I love the DL4 but 14 seconds is just not enough. The footswitches are idiot proof in my opinion, so plus points for me. I also like the quick action of the footswitches. That said, I've not tried the X4 so the opinions above may be more insightful.

How much does and X4 cost these days?

Hindi kaya ako maculture shock dito? hehehehe!

I'm a purist. hehehe, twist a knob here and there lng kasi tlga ako magtimpla ng sound.

Hmmmmm. . . .

as for DL4, nakita ko to dati sa pedalboard ni John Dinopol of Urbandub, and dun ako nagsimula magresearch about it, kaso student pa ako nun and walang pera, as in WALA, kaya hndi ako masyado naginvest ng time pagaralan. pero, I've read a lot of good stuff as well for the DL4.

:)

I dont think macuculture shock ka naman paps. as long as you're familiar with the parameters of a delay pedal (FX Level, Feedback, Time), you are good to go.
