Any guide on going to the luthier?
« on: May 17, 2015, 08:23:37 AM »

How much is the usual fee? Gaano katagal yung pagpapa-setup? Iiwan mo ba yung gitara mo at balikan nalang?

Any recommended luthier near pasig area?

Just to give an example, this one which should be near my place.

Usual fee? Depende sa luthier

Gaano katagal? Basic set up 15mins-1hour kung walang ibang ginagawa

Iiwan?

Fee will depend on what the luthier will see.

the luthier will inspect your guitar and tell you what will needs to be done and your options.

if its a basic set up, it still depends on the luthier's work load so he still may ask you to leave your guitar.

recommendation? since it may only need a set up (based on the info given here), all luthiers will be able do that. maybe it would be best to visit the one nearest to you.

Eto po malapit saken:
http://guitardoctor.weebly.com/
will contact.

afaik, everything works. tested all pickups configs. bridge, tuners all looks intact. no obvious fret buzz. the volume and tone knobs is fine.

i'm sure the action needs attention. and some cleaning.

my 2 cents,

go with 0.9s, hand the luthier the new strings para bago strings mo pag sinetup niya (better)

Yep, found that in google. That's where I found other tech/luthier not yet in the GC directory.
Thanks anyway

I'd get at least .09s. I tried those .08s and theyre thin af. not a good thing unless you're into really really fast metal that needs really really low action.

Basic setup 500
With fret levelling +950

Yan standard price sa Guitar1 / Elegee Custom Shop

And yup bring your strings. 10's i'd suggest.

Also kahit bnew guitar mo kung hindi atleast japan standard or american standard sigurado kailangan nyan fret levelling.

15min to 1hour depende how busy sa shop (kahit saang shop)

Mahihintay mo yan if you're willing to wait

Yep, pumunta ako actually. I brought gauge 9 though. Definitely malayong mas playable na gitara ko.

Curious, edi parang kahit ano gitara bibilhin mo (except japan standard or american standard) automatic +1k na agad dahil ipapa-fret level mo pa?

pag sinabi bang japan standard -- MIJ? and american standad - made in u.s.?

it depends, some japan standards and american standards need to undergo set up too. it all depends.

not really, again it depends. yung ibang second hand as is na. unless the seller took the extra step of having the guitar redressed and set up to textbook standards. mahirap kasi ang additional spending baka hindi mo pa makuha ang gusto mong net payment.

yung iba naman once makuha nila yung gitara, lets say the seller is a really good guitarist or even a famous one, pagkakuha ng gitara, hindi nila muna gagalawin yun. titingnan nila bakit ganun ang set up ng gitara. minsan kasi may natututunan ka din.

anyway, the luthier should be honest with you when he inspects the guitar, kung well set up naman siya at maganda yung fret and nut work etc..why fix something that's not broken?

pag sinabi bang japan standard -- MIJ? and american standad - made in u.s.?

pag sinabing american standard it usually refers to the entry level guitar na made in usa. ganun din pag japan standard.

a secondhand guitar is set up to the standards of its previous player. so say if you're a metal player and you bought a secondhand Les Paul from a bluesman set up with high action and .12 gauge, you'd probably have to check your frets, probably even the nut, aside from the usual truss rod, action and intonation adjustments so it will fit your super low action .09 gauge playing.

I guess what he was trying to say was, guitars made in Japan or the US have a much higher probability of already being set up well as far as fretwork is concerned. mass produced mid to low range guitars are probably haphazardly assembled and most probably need extra attention. if your MIC or your MIA has fine fretwork, why have fix what ain't broke right? have it checked, THEN have it serviced IF there's a problem.

depends if the set up will hit your spot. i agree sa analogy ni sonic.

ok naman ang 0.8s to get you started playing. but i would suggest 0.10s. it makes you more accustomed to the tension,
keeps your hand strength up, and is more durable than lower gauge strings while maintaining great playability.
