Personally, I prefer using the keyboards for tuning. Good ear training din. Kaso syempre hindi mo magagawa yun kung nasa gitna ka ng tugtugan at may bigla kang narinig na out of tune note... buti na lang may tuner with mute yung effects ko. What I'm just trying to say is that don't rule out visual tuners, kailangan din yan.

Lalo sa dati kong experience kasi yung guitar ko e may floyd rose kaso wala dating mga mga locking nut (thanks to Arie for this). So I HAD to tune on every other song... talk about frustrating. At nung time na yun, wala pa kong digital na tuner, so I had to play and adjust the strings depending on the note being played... annoying po grabe. Buti na lang di ako nasisita nung leader namin.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

kung perfectionist ka sa tuning and if your ears are as accurate as you claim them to be, buy a Peterson Strobostomp and have your guitar set up with the Buzz Feiten Tuning System. yun ang ultimate solution sa tuning perfectionists that's why boutique guitar and bass manufacturers like Tom Anderson Guitarworks, John Suhr Guitars, MTD (Michael Tobias Design), McPherson Guitars, etc. use this system with their instruments. and of course, the Strobostomp is by far the most accurate pedal tuner ni the market today; it can be used for BFTS-equipped guitars and can be used as an intonation tool (may intonation tool mode sya) as well. but sa totoo lang, ok na rin yung ibang tuners like BOSS TU-2, Korg DT-10, etc. kung di ka ganun ka-perfectionist sa tuning :)

slightly OT: let's all do a little test lang to verify our pitch perception abilities :)

pinost yan ni Gep sa "Anything Goes" thread pero ipopost ko na rin dito. thanks Gep!

i got 1.5Hz a couple of weeks ago using a laptop speaker. i got 0.7875Hz using my home PC's regular speakers.

kuha na ng test! :)

I just took that test using headphones (AKG K240).... and I sucked eggs....

"At 500Hz, you can reliably differentiate two tone 3.7xxx Hz apart." The rest is the same as Poundcake's.

3. lead guitarist ng Parokya ni Edgar. Siete, sa lahat ata ng record nila either flat o sharp by a sixteenth note yung gitara nya (i.e., halatang halata!). lakas ng loob mag solo.

Baka naman sadya kung lahat ng strings... i think si Dimebag (RIP) tunes his guitars one step flat.

correct, the fact that guitars are fretted instruments it is out of tune in itself and by itself, poundcake is ryt the closest thing to a perfect tuning for guitar is fittenized tuning system,  even if you intonate the guitar the traditional way (by tuning the open and 12 frett) some of the fretts along the neck will have some descrepancies you cant get all 22 fretts to hit perfect Zero (so i guess learning to compensate  with your playing helps) again tuners are not the issue here its about how to play, skill, and quality of the guitar.

pano kapag biglang lumamig sa venue nyo? it'll most likely cause your strings to go sharp. tapos in between songs ka magtotono tapos maingay ang crowd. Kahit perfect pitch ka if you can't hear well pano ka mag totono?  :|

i love my quick tuner to death: prevents embarrassment

^i agree. but that's the reason kung bakit sila sumikat. they don't give a damn about givng a perfect performance. they just go out there and play. kahit pumipiyok o nagkakamali si kurt cobain ok lang. they put on a great show nontheless.
