mga kapatid na musiko sa tate!
« on: May 05, 2007, 02:13:54 AM »
mga kapatid, konting tulong lang po!
im planning to go there and seek for a job.. unfortunately wala po akong ibang baon kundi ang aking pinakamamahal na 1970 custom greaco strat.. marami lang po kasi akong naririnig na marami na rin na bandang pinoy dyan, gusto ko lang po malaman yung sistema, kung pano kumikita ang mga banda dyan, kung stable ba yung mga gig at kung anu-ano pa. maraming salamat po at mabuhay tayong lahat! godbless!

ma-mo move tong thread mo sa Anything Goes, but I'll answer anyway.

Hindi steady ang kita, at least for me. Me kakilala din ako, pero showband sila. Part time lang nila ginagawa to.

I have not met anyone from this group. They're a production company as well as promoters. Sila yung responsible for bringing Parokya, Bamboo, Barbie and E-heads among many others to showcase their talents sa U.S.

You could also try auditioning for Sessionista. I think they're LA based. You can look them up the web. I know a couple of people there. Paul and Jana (I hope they're still there).

If you're in San Fran, I can help you hook up with some bands. Ano ba style mo dre? (anyway, that's me)

im also wondering if mgkakabanda ako sa tate, sana makahanap ako ng banda dun.huhuhu, cant imagine my self not doing the thing which i love the most...

sometimes you really have to sacrifice bro..... i had the same sentiments when i first came here. but love knows no shame kung uunahin mo muna ang pamilya mo bago ang sarili...(sniff, sniff)

music here is considered a part time thing....few filipino musicians actually make good money doing the music thing.

perf with his guitar lessons, classical gigs

a former pupil mark, with his jazz, fusion guitar teaching gigs

rondalla rockstar with his rondalla gigs...and the occasional full band gigs( although he does have a day job)

robie....also has a band i believe...pero may day job din.

my former bandmates---- they produce their own shows and earn from cd sales....they too have dayjobs.

and a few friends who do the so called 'asosasyon gigs'...the ballroom dancing, debut, wedding reception gigs......they too have dayjobs.

a common thread in all these guys....may dayjobs lahat sila(with the exception of perf and mark)

why you need a dayjob....you need money to buy your own rig, decent transportation, gas money, rent money, food....pang clothes

in other words, you need money to support your hilig.

personally, i'm in the medical profession...caregiver, studying to be a CNA( nursing assistant ). i also did some construction work before.....nag receptionist din ako sa facility for the mentally handicapped.....kusinero....salesman din sa hiphop retail store.

oh...and i play gigs once in a while...dati with introvoys...then session minsan sa 'asosasyon'...now nagsusubok magbuo ng bluesband....may sinalihan na dalawang banda...one cover band...at isa pang original na songs......minsan may bayad...kadalasan wala...

minimum of $100 per gig---pataas yun.....and you have to bring your own equipment.

phew! pasensya na at nag sermon nanaman si lolo....kadalasan kasi ineexpect ng pinoy( my relatives for example! ) na madali lang buhay dito sa america....ang tutoo, mas mahirap, pero ang daming opportunities...akala ng mga kuya ko, nagbabakasyon lang ako dito....and they thought na stupid ako for leaving a popular band...

it's not wrong to dream......you just gotta have a good plan.

i'm only doing the medical career plan, coz we filipinos are known to be good in this field....si stratman, nurse yan! i get good comments from my clients/patients most of the time.

but....i also plan to build my own studio....maybe get some more time off in the future para makapag gig ng mas madalas.

pero just goin for a record deal...then slugging it out in the unknown trenches of musical obscurity.

sorry lumalim sobra...let me put it this way....for every green day that makes it in the industry, there are like thousands who end up....OD'ing...fading into obscurity....die while they play dives and bars.....or go back to finding a real job.

you dont have to be in the medical field bro....maraming trabaho dito...kailangan mo mag tyaga sa pag hanap...

In all seriousness. Not to rain on your parade pero comming to Amerika to pursue your musical dream is like winning the lotto or sweepstake. Some good examples are Southborder, Lokomotiv, and Jon's fav... Introvoys (bwahaha!!! loko lang, bro ). Sa Pinas major labels sila (Razorback and Wolfgang). Para sa akin they can go par to par with the major acts around here. Magagaling na musikero sila. They're well known and have the respect of the local pinoy musikeros here (including me). The thing is while working on their major label deal they have day jobs (I think, hehe) to survive the day to day leaving. It's not easy to get the success here even though they already have it in the PI.

ayan madami nang nasa SoCal ang contact mo. the most I got paid for a gig was $250, tapos sa buong banda pa yun. lugi ka kasi lagi kayong nag-pa-practice, kulang pa yong sa ginastos nyo dun. tapos yung transpo mo pa.

Buti na lang me mga master na nag-reply na dito, learn from them and you'll not only gain street smarts, but ger smarter generally.

thanks to all of you who replied, especially kay sir blues2death, (yung tulong na inoffer nyo I will always keep that in mind! hehe)! maraming salamat po mga senyor!

I also expect of what is the worst for me dyan sa america. maliban po sa magagandang bagay na narinig ko, eh, unfortunately, narinig ko din po ang negative side of the story. For me po, i just want to continue what i've started, and that is the love for music.

ganun nga siguro talaga dyan.. ika nga nila eh, "trabaho dito, there's no time for good time". pero ganun pa man, i'll take may chances, hindi naman ako siguro mabibigo lalo na sa tulong ng mga kapatid kong MUSIKERO!

maramaing salamat ulit mga kapatid! more power sa inyo dyan! ingat po and godbless!peace!
