HARD DISK SPACE
« on: June 08, 2007, 04:48:48 PM »
Just a question for you guys with studios:
how long do you leave a project in your HD before erasing them and do you ask the band to bring in their own hard disk? ( just in case they want to physically handle the master recording) i might start doing recording for other people ( not friends) and i just want to know the consensus of people here on the forum on how they run things in their studios. thanks. 8-)

upon completion of the project, the session files, samples and all track notes get offloaded onto DVD for me. I catalogue all my files in Filemaker Pro 9. My PC and Mac both have 1TB of HD space but I always try to have no old session files loaded on them just to keep things tidy.

im just on 250GB and i bought that about a year ago (or less maybe). i had to erase stuff just lately.

i keep things in my disk for as long as possible because clients come back and more often than not they add/subtract/revise a project.  this way the projects are more accessible a little faster than having to copy from dvd.

ive seen those around and, frankly, i am hesitant to plunk all of my data down in one drive. i have 2 500Gb going in each of my comps just to split the load.

I worked in this studio one time that had an Apple X-San system installed for their in-house Mac computers. The system was pretty pimp because there was so much common storage space that I didn't have to shuttle data on disks between 2 recording suites.
