Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) enables a computer connected to the Internet via a cable or DSL modem to share its connection with other computers connected to it. It is cheap because of its minimal hardware requirements and fairly straight forward to set up.

what you need:
1 x network card per computer
Each computer must have a Network Interface Card (NIC) installed.
1 x Ethernet crossover cable
A crossover cable is a type of Ethernet cable wired in such a way that it can connect two computers directly together, removing the need for a hub or switch. The cable must be long enough to connect both PCs together.

thanks for the replies, someone showed me this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16833150021

im still not clear if i can have internet connection on both pc's without one functioning as a server, what im trying to avoid is the need to have the main computer on in order to connect on the 2nd computer...dapat independent talaga sila but when both are on both have connection

No need for a server. All you need is a dsl router; usually around 2k or less. Each computer can access the net independently; some routers even allow wifi but I suggest getting familiar with WEP to prevent intrusions.

i'm not sure about other wireless routers but I've been using Netgear for more than a year now. So far, mahusay, wala pang problema :). Hindi din ganun kamahalan - mga Php 2,250 ko lang ata nabili dati. Kung mapapaisip ka mag wireless, you might want to consider Netgear.

Given the small difference in price between the "wired" and wireless routers, sa akin, ok na talaga mag-wireless - you don't have to mess around with cables, etc. although you still have an option to connect PCs to the router by cables. At napaka-ideal talaga ng wireless in my opinion, esp. kung magkakalayo talaga yung PCs and yung main Internet connection (i.e. magkaiba ng floors).

Although ang problema lang, may kamahalan din ang mga wireless adapters (from Php 1,500 to Php 2,000 ata), especially kung wala pang built-in wireless LAN yung PC - yung mga bago-bagong laptops kasi, typical na yung ganito e.

got a netgear router at home.  was bought in the states a couple years back.  pretty stable that i don't even turn it off anymore.

it's got both wired and wifi.  i like havin the least wires snakin round the house that i even had a wifi card installed on my desktop.  plus i can bring the laptop to wherever, even while watchin tv.
