Depende may binabagayan kasi yung kanta. I've seen a lot of shredders maraming magagaling maraming mabibilis kaso minsan hindi bagay sa kanta yung shred nila.
I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones.

whats with the wannabes?
just answer the freakin question

maybe if you had a freaking-valid question in the first place, you'd get a freaking-straight answer?  what's with the attitude?

apples and oranges...  a riff is a short piece or section of music.  shred is a technique.  you could have a riff that is done through shred.  if you think all riffs are always done with a dropped tuning on the low-strings, well...

ok, move on people... nothing to see here...

in my opinion riff... kasi un pinaka naaalala ng tao e... it is the soul of the song... you are more inclinedto bang your head with a riff as opposed to a solo/shred/lick...

pero ung mga solo it gives off more emotion imho. it may connect with you... tell you something or make you feel something...

pero siyempre there's a song with both... and though i'm not saying it's the best... a perfect example would be

DEEP PURPLE - BURN!

ayun lang peace! rak n roll lang tayo mga brod!

for me kung may shred dapat may lick. kelangan ng balance. dynamics.

di pwedeng puro bbrubrubrubrubrubrubrubrubruruuuuuuuuu-heeeeeeeeng!!

o kaya puro chug chug cheng.. chuga-chuga-chug...
