I tried upgrading my sticks from 7a to 5a (yun nga lang di tulad ng dati na orig zildjian ang gamit ko- mga tig 120 na lazer, premeire tsaka gtx ang gamit ko.), tama naman ang finger / wrist action ko, i tried hitting softer sa ride, pero napuputulan pa rin ako at least 1 pair sa isang gig (malaking improvement na kasi dati 2 pairs ang napuputol sa isang gig). Sa orig sticks after 1 month of bashing tsaka ko nae-experience ito samantalang sa local sticks, kabibili ko pa lang the afternoon before the gig, putol na kinagabihan yung stick.... ano pwede kong gawin? ayoko naman lagyan ng tape yung stick kasi mawawala balance ko....

Additional Info nga pala, my stick keeps breaking in the shoulder part below the tip and sa kalahating part ng stick just above where they print the name. parehas na diagonal fracture....

ako din,2 weeks lang ung nova drum stick ko na 7a eh nabali na,guys parehas kami ng situation!!!!!!!1help naman pls,how to avoid na mabali ang drum stick ko...

wahah ako nmn 5A na NOVA na gamit ko, naputulan din agad ako...
cgro kung 7A gamit mo switch ka sa 5A...
basta palit lang ng size ung mas makapal..
parang ako nabalian agad ng 5A so switch ako sa 5B ngayon...
recommended ko VATER, NOVA kung ang gusto nyo affordable na sticks...
kung may budget nmn, try using VIC FIRTH (gawa rin pala ng VIC FIRTH ang NOVA)
or try nyo din ung TECHRA...tnx

personal opinion lang po ito...

as i have said, finger / wrist ang gamit ko. pero ganon pa rin. kasi kung braso ang gamit mo dun, horizontal ang crack nya hindi diagonal.... yun ang napansin ko sa ibang sticks na nagagamit ko sa outdoor. mas malakas pa nga ako pumalo sa outdoor pero sa indoor gigs ako napuputulan...

nakaktuwa lang tlga ung 5A ko na nova. Unang palo ko sa crash nung gig putol agad...

ung lang cgro comment ko sa NOVA msyado manipis ung sa may tip pero solid ung body...
kaya ung nxt pair ko ung kabilang side na gagamtin ko...ahehehe

san kayo napuputulan ng sticks palage?
cymbals? snare? or stryke anywhere..
baka sir reinvent niyo ung technique niyo or posture..

Sir, actually rimshot nga ako...
pero sa NOVA ko lang nxperience ung naggiveup agad ung sticks bnew pa tlga sya nung gig.
sa vater mga 2weeks pa bago bumigay ung sticks...overhead pako pumalo minsan.heavy weight kc ako kaya heavy rin ipalo ung sticks...ahehe
tingin nyo sir do i have to switch sa 5B? pero sanay nako gumamit ng 5A...TNX

ayun.. rimshot... kasi ako rimshot... pero napapatagal ko sticks for 3 months..
lazer 8a un... consistent ako sa same place ng rimshot... pero i don't put much power.. accuracy habol ko.. kasi malakas naman talaga ang snare pagrimshot... i play in a metal band.. pero bihira lang ako maputulan...
try playing in wrist.. practising consistency... kasi may tropa ako..
saltik ng rimshot niya.. nakakabingi pero effortless... reinvent ur style siguro..

LAZER 8A? cge pro try ko na rin gumamit nun...tama nga, wrist nga problem ko, though marunong ako hindi ko namamaintain...i also play in a metal band sir...kaya salamat sa advice.
tomorrow try ko bumili ng lazer8A b4 gig, and message ako d2 kung ano nangyari ahehe tnx ulet more power sa band...

ok.. just try... control lang ng stick.. aminado ko tawag nila sakin tuod sa pagtugtug.. gusto ko metal.. pero sakin it's for the music.. hindi ung malupitang
palakasan lang ng palo.. or ask other fellow drummers to observe ur playing...
baka meron silang makita na di mo alam...

It's normal for drumsticks to wear out and break. Even Ahead aluminum sticks can eventually wear down. Unless we're playing very very light traditional jazz music, sticks will least likely last for a lifetime. If you want a virtually unbreakable pair of sticks, get a pair of iron bars hehe!

Kidding aside, I also had the same problem before. I used to break sticks faster than normal. Thankfully, one day I consulted Mang Jun Regalado and told him about my problem. I showed him how I hold and play my sticks. He noticed that my grip has a problem. Some of my fingers were out of place, which is probably why I hit drum rims and cymbals at an odd angle, causing my sticks to wear down sooner. Thanks to Mang Jun, I get more life out of my sticks nowadays.

Just review that grip technique of yours. Small things can make a big difference.

And, FYI... I'm a full-time pro drummer, and I normally use Pro-Mark oak drumsticks and at times some hickory models from other leading brands (like Vic Firth). With constant gigging and rehearsals, a pair of sticks can last with me for an average of 4 weeks, which I think is not so bad for a working drummer.

It's just normal. Sticks will eventually wear out. That's why we should invest wisely on sticks. Personally, I'd rather purchase high quality sticks which could last for weeks, rather than cheap ones which won't last for a week. Well, that's just me.

You can also scrutinize the stick you're buying. Piliin mo yung stick na may texture na tuluy-tuloy mula puno't dulo; ibig kong sabihin yung wood grain nya ay direcho at tuwid mula butt hanggang tip. Mas matibay sya kumpara sa stick na diagonal ang wood grains kung saan madalas nababali.

Hmmm, maybe i really need an expert's advice kasi as far as i can remember talaga, tama ang grip ko according to weckl's back to basics video

. sa left, syempre sa snare rimshot ako pero madalang akong maputulan sa rimshot ko usually sa outdoor gigs lang lalo na kapag walang miking ang drumset (birthdays, weddings and stuff). Sa right hand ako usually napuputulan kapag nagcra-crash ride ako, yun yung middle fracture tsaka shoulder fracture na diagonal nangyayari. I know na nag-improve na yung grip ko kasi dati natatanggal talaga yung head. I'm not a power drummer kasi mostly ng songs namin are pop. So di talaga ako maingay. Matagal ko na kinukulit sa ibang fellow drummers ko dito sa amin kaso di rin nila masabi.

Partial conclusion ko lang, siguro nasanay lang ako sa mga branded sticks when i usually can afford it. Pero ngayon, medyo hirap ang buhay and walang time para bumiyahe para bumili ng branded sticks (medyo wala akong tiwala sa quality ng zildjian sticks dito).

I had a bad experience with vic firth rin kasi (sorry sensei) same problem, asa chorus kami ng "sugod" bigla nagfracture sa shoulder diagonally. bagong padala lang yun, mangiyak-ngiyak ako nun..... so either zildjian and promark lang ako. wala na audiophile dito kaya dyan sa manila lang ako makakahanap ng branded talaga....

marami na pala akong na-murder na stick kung ganon hehehehe....

i'ved asked jp about it in the last eb i attended, sabi nya better upgrade to a heavier stick if you want it to last more, kaya ako bumalik sa 5a. subukan ko nga mag 5b kung ganon pa rin prob it's me na talaga. huhuhuhu

yes.. i noticed also that zildjian sticks are not trustworthy anymore..
mga 5a ko dati lasted for half a year nung high skul ako.. vic firth's also
my idol na stick.. buo ang laman niya... ngayon ang gaan na ..
ung dati kong 5b na pangpractice pad lang...(bought 3 yrs.ago)
compare mo sa 5b ngayon? magaan na.. parang 5a ng dating
vic firth.. sorry for the words.. pero ganun talaga...

ung 8a lang dati meron ganun pero meron na 7a. un pinaka reasonable na bilhin bro. ang dami ko kilalang magagaling na drummers na un ang gamit..
