Believe it or not, flash ram can only be written to a finite number of times. In short, it expires. To quote from the Imation site:

"Flash memory has a write endurance limit. This limit is the number of times the flash memory cell can be written until it can not be restored to its initial condition. The industry refers to this as the erase cycles. The endurance is rated between 10,000 and 100,000 erase cycles for different types flash memories."

Ouch! Valuable info right there!

So investing on a flash based iTouch/iPhone suddenly became questionable.. :|

hmm...to think that I'm planning to have either an iTouch or an Iphone, but isn't all media players out there also flash-based?

You can almost certainly say that those players that don't use hard disks use flash ram instead. Even your SD cards, compact flash, and other such ram cards use flash ram technology. Remember that the key phrase is "erase cycle"; flash ram lifespan is not affected by multiple reads... only writes (and maybe EMP).

that is why they are sold at a cheaper price(Moore's Law). plus if you'll observe, many flash disks now come in even bigger storage capacities that is because in the near future, CDs/DVDs will be obsolete and will be replaced by flash memory. that is why the technology, nowadays, is leaning towards flash memory. there are now notebooks that has no CD/DVD drive(mac). i think that they'll also replace the magnetic disks. we'll never know.
