Tuning would tremendously help your sound output regardless if you place better heads though putting Remo or Evans heads would also make it even better.

There are several tuning threads around which I suggest your browse through.

Eto yung experimental tunes ko for tonal tuning.

http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,88841.0.html

The best way to make your kit sound great is tuning it correctly (but it's all about personal opinion on how you tune it), let your kit resonate. I would advise not to muffle (like placing foam on the shell, plaing o-rings on the head) your kit especially when you plan to use it outdoors. If you really need to get rid of those overtones, i would suggest buy Min-Emads from Evans (Audiophile has Evans) or improvise, kita ko kasi sa videos ni Bob Gatzen na ang Min-Emads are like Velcro Straps lang with a super adhesive so, ganon na lang gawin mo. And having Branded Batter and Reso Heads make all the difference tone wise. It might cost you, but as they say, no pain - no gain.

And eto pinaka-importante sa lahat to make your kit sound great -

Experiment, Explore, Express.

Do it with lots of research sa net, books, videos. The world is full of information.  It's up for us how to gather those info's.
