Ganito ba talaga to? Walang nakapost?  :-D

I have complete DVD set, amazing artists here. This is where I first heard Kurt Elling, and an outstanding performance of Take Five with Al Jarreau. Also, Mumbles by Clark Terry.

Astig, a must get. Although I think most of the clips are in youtube. Pero astig rin kasi yung mga interviews... "Jazz is like pornography, you('ll) know it when you hear it." - Kurt Elling

What a strange question. If you play jazz for a living, that's what you do every gig I guess!

As for Take 5, the first bit o' Al Jarreau I ever heard was his live album, and this had a long version of Take 5 with him scatting along with the entire song).

yung isa pang bokalista na mahilig mag scat gaya nito - si bobby mcferrin. Look him up. I think he was best known for the novelty song "Don't worry be happy", but he's done mainly vocalese albums.

Check out the album Play. It's Bobby McFerrin and Chick Corea live - just a piano and the vocal histrionics of Mr. McFerrin. He's one great vocalist. I also have his classical album.
Give it all you\'ve got, but slowly - Chuck Mangione

Just wish to clarify -- Scatting and Vocalese don't mean the same thing. You are right in saying that scatting is wordless (use of nonsense syllables) improvisation as in "la la la"; in other words, using one's voice as the musical instrument in performing a solo.

Vocalese, on the other hand, is putting lyrics or words into an established instrumental piece or solo. Jon Hendricks (Lambert, Hendricks and Ross) is well-known for this. He wrote lyrics for improvised solos on a note-for-note basis. A fine example would be his work on the classic "Four Brothers", which was originally recorded by four master reedmen: Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Stan Getz and Woody Herman. This song was revived and recorded later on by the Manhattan Transfer, who by the way were much influenced by Hendricks' group. Sometime in the late 80's, they released an album entitled "Vocalese" that featured no other than Jon Hendricks himself.  Another example is "Moody's Mood", which was originally James Moody's tenor saxophone solo on the song "I'm in The Mood For Love".  Lyrics for this (solo) song were written and sung by another great vocalese performer -- Eddie Jefferson.

re: Spring High.

Another personal favorite , pero mukha yatang di na to tinotogs ni Ginoong Lewis. Not even during the whole Legends series.

All performances were great sa DVD, here are some of my highlights:

1. John Pizarelli (Walang hiyang gitarista! Walang hiya ring kumanta!)

2. The Three Tenors (kanya kanyang kwento, yoko nang mag sax)

3. David Sanborn and Phil Woods (I thought Mr. Sanborn would faint beside his idol, but he had his own goods, and delivered them flawlessly)

4. Abe Laboriel's solo on the Latin episode with Oscar Castro-Neves and Ivan Lins.

5. Clark Terry's MUMBLE. (Whoa! Double Whoa!)

6. Vinnie Colaiuta's groove as he backed up Duke, M. Miller, and Rit.

7. Chris Botti plays some of the most lyrical lines in these dark times. (more Chet Baker-ish than Miles, nevertheless very haunting)

Just like a breath of  fresh air in the midst of the toxic urban smog.

Happy weekend people  :-D
