I'm conducting a study guys, help me out.

Is there's any way for music stores (JB, RJ, Yupangco) in the cities sell traditional Filipino instruments?

Visit this if you want to check out different Filipino traditional instruments with videos - http://aedv.cs.tu-berlin.de/~brandeis/Videos_Index.html

I believe that the inclusion of these in their inventory would not only promote our indigenous culture (Bring the instruments to the musicians, let the musicians bring the music to the people), but would also give income to the Filipino tribes.

I want to prove its marketability amongst Filipino musicians. As a Filipino musician, I'd like to explore contemporary music carrying with me my Filipino identity.

So question:

Will you buy any of these instruments? Try it out with your band?

YES or NO.

COMMENT LANG KAYO. Hope you can help me out. Thanks!

note: put into consideration that the materials used for these instruments are made from wood and bamboo. Meaning, they're CHEAP!

Price would be a factor, balanced versus playability. And that's after judging if it can be used in our music or not.

Bascog,

I Agree. Price is indeed a factor. By the looks of it, this is locally produced, and costs can be considered minimal as compared to "imported" ones (taxes, freight-in, etc).

I'm actually interested in learning to play some of these. Like the Hegalong, yung ginagamit madalas ni Joey Ayala na galing sa T'boli tribe. Curious lang ako sa mga ganun, if it's playable, what specific sound it gives, and the range of notes it can cover. I think cool to get a taste of some of our roots. Tikim lang ba, kung okey, why not.  :-D

Thanks for the reply!

you got the materials..

Probably would buy a kulintang, pero a few pieces lang, not a whole set. Or probably some gongs.

Not mga wood or bamboo... they won't cut through the rest of the drumset.

Hmmm. Native sitar-like instruments with custom built pickups would be interesting.

Offline talaga?

ako if i have the extra money, i'd buy one. although mas malamang na maging display nalang ito instead na magamit.

alam ko yung music noon mayaman pero iba na kasi yung panahon. may mga kanya kanya nag perception. kung dati traditional music lang, pero ngayon andami nang genre na mapapakinggan and more people tend to listen to the music na nasa panahon nila.

pero gaya ng sabi ni rossross, gamitin to na magiging unique yung music. although traditional yung instrument play it differently.
my 2 cents.
