How to properly tune the Kick Drum?
« on: February 16, 2009, 12:00:12 PM »
Mga bossing I would just like to solicit your opinion on how to properly tune the kick drum. I am not the drummer of our band, lead guitarist ako but I'm just a little bit concerned regarding our band's kick drum. Medyo basag yung tunog kahing naka mic siya and we are using shure drum kit.

Ano kaya ang mabuting gawin para may punch yung kick drum mga sir?

TIA

shure drum kit??

the drum shells can affect the performance of your kick,
maari ring sa skin, I suggest na you can use remo pinstripe,

depende rin sa tugtog niyo, if mga rock, wrinkle method yung gawin nyo, you will look for the lowest pitch ng batter head of your kick, sa resonant naman, mejo tight or low, depende sa gustong tunog..

if wala paring kagandahan, try to apply a ring to control the sound of your kick.

try to search sa youtube.. :-)

hmm powerstroke 3 tapos either quarter turn muna lahat ng knobs or full turn.

then try pushing down your palm on the middle of the kick, ramdaman mo rin tension.

Try to get the lowest note if you want that warm phat sound.

try muffling rin the bass drum  :-o

Low tension on the batter side, medium to tight tension on the reso side, and a good size pillow of foam as muffler.

sa akin (medyo iba ata yung method ko ah)

1. tune reso head to desired pitch
(not too high or you'd get unwated overtones; too low will make the drum go splat. make the drum sing.)

2. tune batter head to comfortable tension
(more of feel than pitch ang batter para sa akin)

3. for muffling, patches and built-in muffling rings are much better than the usual big pillows people use. sure, it'll be punchier, but it won't sound as good. maybe a folded towel / blanket at most.

usually this results in a higher-than-you'd-usually-want pitch, but with a nice full bodied tone and a good balance of thud (attack) and boom (resonance). para maiba naman... laging THUD lang ang mga bass drum dito e. you can still get a good punchy without sacrificing tone and resonance.
