I am thinking of using Logic 8 for composing and recording music... is there a way to connect a pci based converter like a MOTU HD 192 to a mac pro laptop?
the mac only has firewire and USB connections. been using Nuendo for some time now but the features on the Logic 8 has got me interested plus its fine integration with Final Cut Pro .... thanks guys.. 8-)

Well, there is another manufacturer by the name of Adlink Technology Inc. but Magma was at least specified for audio. Looking at all possible vendors, it appears the technology itself (pci chassis expansion) is expensive.

Why not get another MOTU FW interface like the Traveller or Ultralite? It might be cheaper in the long run, doesn't bind you to outgoing technology like pci and it is 'portable' across OSX and XP/Vista.

hey kitC.. i was thinking of that Motu firewire thing too but do you think it can carry those large files ( like 40 plus tracks at 176.4KH / 24 bits?) back and forth in the firewire route? also will the quality of the recorded file be degraded since the HD 192 has better converters ( i think) than the ultralite or 828 .. maybe i'll just have to transfer them all from the 2 ch on the Rosetta.. Just started looking into Logic 8 and the interface in nice BUT the learning curve is steep.. maybe time to Youtube it  8-)
those 2 big books make me yawn  :-D

I think the mk.III MOTU interfaces are capable of 192/176 khz operation... Marvin has a couple of 828 mk3's that he's putting through it's paces here although the specs say that at 192 khz, the 828 will input/output a max of 10 channels. If you are mixing in the box, I don't think this is a deal breaker since your DAW will handle mixing internally. This might become a problem if you do analog summing in excess of 10 channels, then return the summed signal back into your DAW.
