Remote-controlling my DAW
« on: March 17, 2009, 09:25:51 AM »
Question question again.

I just got into this realization, that the most creative times of an artist is when he's alone. It's happened na din that I'm in the mood to start something in the studio, only to realize that I'm pretty much alone, with noone to press the record button.

So I was thinking, is it possible (yeah I know it is naman) to remote-control my daw through a MIDI footpedal like the Behringer FCB, mapped to toggle the record key. That way even if I'm alone in the iso booth, I can just arm the track, step into the studio, step on the pedal then start recording. Then when I'm done, just step on the thing then step out.

Yeah I know, I can just give myself a 2-minute headstart and press record kaya lang having to ste in and out of the iso booth can make things uncomfortable and hectic.

Anyway, just wanted to poll for ideas. My studio is equipped with a BCF2000 surface controller which has a MIDI in.

Update na lang for proper thread closure. I got the footpedal working on both Cubase and Sonar. Nagre-record na sya pag inaapakan. Nakakabit sa back ng BCF2000 sa footpedal jack. The functions of the two jacks are assignable and can be "bound" to the keys of the PC keyboard. So I just assigned it to the asterisk key for cubase and to the R key for Sonar. Hehehehe. Pwede ko na umpisahan yung solo acoustic project ko mwahehehehe.

pards actually i had the same predicament pero mas simple yung solution ko.. got a wireless mouse and placed the transmitter ( yes the signal can pass thru glass) in front of the glass of the isolation booth and installed a monitor facing me so that i can see the tracks and control the recording process. the monitor also works great by showing the singer the punch in/out points on the vocal take. 8-)
