Anyway I still think the best monitors for beginners are Samson Rubicon R5As or KRK RP5s.

i personally vouch for the rubicon r5a's.  my mixes from home translate quite well when transported into bigger, more expensive systems. :)

The Mackie Powered monitors are okay for beginners.  You can also look into Truth by Behringer (?).  Mixes on these speakers translate well with different playback systems.
