What's your budget?

The M-audio interfaces are usually good enough (inquire with JB)... then there's the Audio Kontrol 1 from Native Instruments which also works with macs.
Sonar 4.04PE/5.2PE/7.02PE/8.31 PE, Project 5 v2.5.1, EmulatorX 1.5, Cubase SL2, Ableton Live 7.14,  Intel Q6600 MSI P43 Neo 4Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800, Emu 1820m, Yamaha DSP Factory, Terratec DMX 6fire

salamat sa mga nag-reply.. but I forgot to add that I'm looking for something that would be able to record drums as well.. looking at the apogee one and duet, they seem to be for guitars and vocals only (pls correct me if I'm wrong).

has anyone had any experience with presonus interface? I'm only asking b/c when I watched one of the garageband video tutorials, parang pinakita dun na presonus yung ginamit to record an acoustic guitar with garageband..

one more question: should I go with a usb 2.0 or firwire interface? Coz according to some, usb 2.0 is faster than firewire but others say firewire has a "faster sustained rate." Anyone who's had the opportunity to compare the two?

Again, salamat sa lahat ng nag-reply at magre-reply  :-)

what im getting from what you want to do is that you might need to get an interface which got minimum 8 ins... presonus is one good interface... now, think and ask yourself how many ins and outs you want for your interface... afterwards decide if your budget will allow it...  there are loads you can choose from  m-audio, motu, rme, presonus, mackie, steinbergs got a good one as well designed mainly for cubase and nuendo users, and more... check on the specs before you buy ok...

also, regarding usb and firewire...  usb 2.0 and firewire 400 has almost same say "speed"  or Data transfer rate... but usb 1 and firewire 400 ... the later is better.... now... usb 2.0 and firewire 800 of course... the later is faster... question, if you need it... its what i think...

i'm still usin a firewire 410 with a unibody macbook pro on snow leopard 64-bit.  have issues with losin audio output upon wakeup, this despite latest driver and software updates.  just an interface restart will do the trick though.  works good and stable with logic pro 9 64-bit.

firewire vs usb?  i'd go with the hotplug convenience of usb.  my beef with firewire, with m-audio at least, is that m-audio doesn't have the proper drivers for the hotplug spec.  best to connect with the notebook off.  some do report cases of a fried firewire port.  lastly, in daisy chaining with a firewire external drive, you'll need to play around with the order for minimal dropouts.

one more question: should I go with a usb 2.0 or firwire interface? Coz according to some, usb 2.0 is faster than firewire but others say firewire has a "faster sustained rate." Anyone who's had the opportunity to compare the two?

When I saw the Apple demo at Suntec City, Singapore they were using Line6 POD Studio so I trust that this has no compatibility issues at all with any Mac. I got the super basic one [GX] and it's really easy to use with GarageBand. Sad thing is that I doubt if this can also be used for drum tracks. :|

I use an Apogee Ensemble with a MacBook Pro for the past few years.  I used to have an Apogee Duet however as it only had 2 inputs I switched to the Ensemble (which can record up to eight tracks at the same time). So far I have had no problems with my setup.

Here's a pic of my setup a few years ago:

here's my current set up as seen in this video:

elow pu! We have a couple of interfaces for your needs..

Digidesign 003 Rack / 003 Rack+ / 003 Factory
...all of these come with PRO TOOLS software...

Focusrite Saffire 56 / Saffire Pro 40
...nice preamps

M-Audio Profire 2626 / Fast track Ultra 8R / Projectmix I/O

......as per your inquiry about usb2 and FireWire, they almost have the same speed though USB eats up some of your processor power.
