Yes its mechanically hard for someone to go fast when it comes to double bass playing, but I'd rather go for a simple syncopated foot pattern than play 160 beats per minute. And thats why I try to put some effort in practicing rudiments with the feet, coz it somehow helps in strengthening your weaker foot, and it make you more familiar with unusual foot patterns.

Jason Bittner said that it took 20 years to get where he is now regarding footwork.

Paradidles with feet does help coordination.  16nth note single strokes for speed and endurance. try doing a double paradidle on 6/8 using heeldown technique.

Eh ako nga, favorite tempos ko ay 180-200 BPM but after playing for more than an hour, my footwork started getting weaker. I also like doing slower running tempos like 120-150 BPM but I'm having BIG problems doing 90-110 BPM. Dunno the exact reason why my left foot (dapat right) started aligning with the snare hit in the long run lol!

If you want basic double bass exercises, play breakdown riffs of most metalcore songs.

Who here digs 16th triplets?! :D

I got a bruised miniscus a long time ago. It made it very hard to walk let alone kick the bass pedal. But when it was bearable enough to play I still found it very hard. After a while, you feel your tendons loosening and get the feel back. Though I do get some pains now and then.

But maybe its different for everyone.

yes ang hirap mag adjust ng speed.
kaya sa mga compositions namen consistent lang yung bass speed :-P.

OT:just wondering...
kunware nasa speed ako ng 120 bpm tas papasukan ng ng triplets.
anu magandang excercise para dun?
ang hirap eh pag ginawa ko yung triplet nawawala na ko sa timing :|

Practice first with your right foot only, tapping straight 8ths. Then try to change to tapping to 8th triplets. Apply that to your left foot as well. The tricky part is to bring both feet alternating together.

EDIT: I'm the kind of guy who rushes just to improve since a LOT of young kids in the USA are getting better in double bass drumming. Even a 14-year-old can play anything from The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel, August Burns Red, All That Remains or even something more technical like Circle Of Contempt.

... have a hard time evening out those single strokes, especially with semi-fast runs.  When it's rapid fire, they can manage to even out the strokes, but the irony is that when they slow down the tempo by 10bpm, the strokes start to sound inconsistent.

Maybe the best way I can relate this is by comparing a wannabe shredder.  A guitarplayer starting at shred would want to do those alternate picking strokes so fast, but when you ask him to slow it down, playing to a metronome, he can't even out the strokes, and each note doesn't sound clear as it should.

Based on my experience in the studio, we would not just fix the kick strokes with triggering or replacing, but also by grid-aligning the kicks. Somewhat like the manual way of quantizing a midi track.

IS it really THAT difficult to have consistent double-kick strokes?  I might be asking too much of a drummer.

Yes. Slower single stroke 16th note double bass tempos needs more concentration compared to blasting away like a mindless maniac hehe!

Rimedyo ko dyan eh I lead on my left foot since my left (as most of us do) is always leading when on the hi-hat pedal
when playing beats with ride cymbal or doing fills kaya mas even out ang tunog kapag left foot ko nasa 8th notes on those slower db 16th notes flurries hekhekhek!
