Questions about the business of music

Guys, I'm doing a feasibility study regarding record labels. Our prof asked us to gather some data but I'm having a hard time. So if you don't mind, i  need some help..

Here are my questions:

How much do professional artists generate from gigs, concerts etc.?
How much CD's must be sold to get a Platinum/Gold ?
How does a record label company gain income?
How much does it cost to launch a band?
Costs of band activity? (ex. costs of setting up a concert)
Costs if hiring a composer to create songs for band etc.?

@TS how about trying to interview a band after their gig? gaya ng sa almost famous na movie. OR have you tried directly calling record companies and setup meetings? i think theyre more than willing to give aid to students regrading these kinds of stuff
