From the article:
Lars Ulrich. Brandishing chops, ferocity and coverboy charisma, Ulrich resurrected metal drumming from the grave during the ’80s. His double-bass pumping, hard-hitting style with Metallica might be a tad uneven, but was aggressive enough to make him the number one drum hero with young head bangers. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on December 26, 1963, Ulrich spent most of his youth studying tennis. But when his family moved to Los Angeles in ’80, he abandoned his athletic ambitions and — inspired by European groups like Iron Maiden, Saxon and Motorhead — formed Metallica. After taking a few years off, Metallica came back in ’96 with the release of the album Load and a headline spot on the Lollapalooza tour.
