Lesson 27: Sep 22
HISTORY: Martial Law
Attention boys and girls and GLBT's! No, we are not banning Emophiles. For
this week's lesson, we will be scratching the anuls of history to recall one
of the country's darkest periods...
Imagine 1972. A time long, long ago...
->A country ruled by military might;
->A time of political instability due to a presidential election tainted
with scandal and cheating;
->Legitimate protests beset by truncheon and teargas;
->Activists and journalists alike tagged "communist";
->Any opposition to the current regime considered "subversive";
->Many arrested, disappear and/or summarily executed;
->A dubious nationwide "people's" plebiscite conducted to change the
constitution so the current Palace dwellers can rule indefinitely;
->"Rule of Law" is often invoked since whoever rules makes the laws!
...wait a minute! Doesn't this sound familiar??? Smell your finger!
This week while Radiodredd tackles Martial Law, which in case you
ignoramuses don't know, occurred 34 years ago today.
Listen to eye-opening music from the protesters of this generation and
generations past:
The Jerks
System of a Down
Wuds
The Who
Tropical Depression
The Clash
and many, many more!!!
Tune in as our special guest, rocker, columnist and all around rabble rouser,
Conrad De Quiros, tries to enlighten us about those dark days.
Will you let it happen again?
