kung clear coating lang kelangan mo, find a good can of clear acrylic lacquer, then polish it with fine rubbing compound available sa automotive section ng truevalue or other shops.. :o

Ang mga vintage Fenders ang ginamit nitrocellulose lacquer para sa clearcoat. Hindi plastic ang nitro, naninilaw pag tumanda, tapos tadtad ng cracks. You know it's vintage kapag ganon ang gitara mo. 'Yong mga mamahalin na reissue Fenders (US) at saka Fender Custom Shop guitars e nitro pa din ang gamit.

Pero kung wala kang madilihensyang nitro, varnish pwede na rin.

acrylic is a much much better alternative to nitro, instead of varnish.

but if you're determined to go with varnish, go for shellac.

Pag traditional o vintage finish nitrocellulose lacquer ang ginagamit.  For the current crop of guitars they use polyurethane o polyester finish.  Yung polyurethane is the same finish you find in hardwood or laminate flooring.  That finish wears well and is more durable than the nitro stuff.  You can find the stuff in aerosol cans available in home hardware shops.  I tried the stuff on a body blank I was playing around with.  Maayos naman ang output.  I still have to find polyester finishing products in the home hardware shops.  Yung acrylic, pinturang kotse yun.  I remember browsing through a guitar maker's site and they said that they used PPG auto paints.  Kung hindi ako nagkakamali they even use the PPG color codes in their guitar product offerings.

The generic Pylox aerosol acrylic lacquers avAILABLE anywhere works great for me. They have a clear coat. I had a fender neck glossed with one. I refinished a strat body. Put 3 coats then sand with 1200 and 2000 grade sandpaper (wet) then polish fast with dry rag. Really glossy and glass-like if done well.

ugh. Pylox. other brands are so much better.

you probably won't find any. polyester is more toxic than 2-part polyurethane, the stuff they really use for new cars and guitars. there are a few reasons why the Fender plant in California uses polyurethane and the one in Mexico uses polyester. state laws probably bar Fender from using polyester in their California plant.

Question lang, pag may mga cracks na gitara, is it advisable to have the guitar repainted? Maiiba ba tunog? Thanks.
