« on: January 27, 2009, 08:15:47 PM »

salamat  in advance.

Not necessary dahil may X50 ka na. (I think this should be in the keyboard forums.)

The X50 has a usb port that provides direct midi communication between your keyboard and laptop. You might not even need an audio interface but if you intend to gig with your laptop, I definitely recommend some form of external soundcard, preferably with 1/4" inputs and outputs which are more robust compared to your laptop's 1/8" connections.

What you need is software to record and edit your midi. For the PC, Cubase, Sonar, and Ableton Live are among the more popular choices. If your laptop is a mac, it already comes with Garageband which is more than good enough for newbies.
Sonar 4.04PE/5.2PE/7.02PE/8.31 PE, Project 5 v2.5.1, EmulatorX 1.5, Cubase SL2, Ableton Live 7.14,  Intel Q6600 MSI P43 Neo 4Gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2-800, Emu 1820m, Yamaha DSP Factory, Terratec DMX 6fire

if you're looking for a live performance app, i recommend ableton live. meron sa the music source. it started as a performance tool but has evolved to become a full-fledged DAW. malapit n lumabas yung live 8  :-D

Yes. Just set it to multi mode. Doesn't your X50 come with a manual?

I read somewhere that if you get Cubase4 now, you can get the upgrade to C5 for only 20 euro. The offer is different in the US.

@TS: Sequencers are easy... you'll get the hang of it once you start recording some notes.

So you mean you're having fun?!

I started using the MC50mk2 nung 1994. Editing was frustrating due to its SMALL DISPLAY...then, lumabas XP80, i bought one. MC features were there. Then sold it again to buy the MC80 and still using it til now.

Still, there are BIG differences between Stand Alone and PC Based sequencing...number one sa issue na yan is the Graphical User Interface...

about x50, simply set it to MULTIMODE as earlier replied here...if SOUND gone wrong, check your keyboard/multimode settings about program change, control change, etc...or, initialize your x50 to GM Mode before using it as your tone generator... Check mo din yung cubase on settings on transmitting MIDI MESSAGES such as sysex, PGs, CCs, and others...

if problem still exist, you may have problems on your MIDIFILES... ( sysex )

x50 and other synthsas module is just an easy setup. Just set it up properly. Except synths without the GM/XG - you need " GM format something blah blah " for trinity/jv90/m1/etc. para ma-play mo Standard MIDIFILES...

Used to be with Cubase VST, whenever you import a midi file, it would end up in only one track, hence one midi channel (usually channel 1). You had to 'dissolve' the part so that each channel would end up in a different track, each assigned to a succeeding midi channel as defined in the midi fle. The instrument assignments should be intact after the dissolve process.

Haven't done midi in Cubase in a while, but my SL2 still has Dissolve Part as a menu command. Haven't felt the need to up to C4 or C5 yet... maybe if they offer the same 20 euro deal.  hehe

SMF File types: SMF-0, SMF-1. I always save as SMF-0 pag may nagpapagawa..

SMF-0 contains all information in one track while a SMF-1 has extracted parts, usually one track for each MIDI channel.

I bought my mc80 6 yrs ago...working fine with 3 major brands of synths. just a matter of MIDI settings and assigning channels and parts.

explore...and enjoy....

From my experience, mas madali mag sequence sa pc because of it's GUI. Kitang kita mo lahat ng activities dun. Sysex, notes, velocity etc. mae-edit mo lang lahat in a fly.

Opening a SMF depends on how it is made or exported pero usually, pag open mo sa DAW mo, separate tracks agad yun (GM).

You can try a "friendlier" software like SONAR sa pc. Madali talaga tong gamitin.

ok na po yung pagset up ng x50 to laptop

sa global select master on multimode then kelangan set it to GM.

sa ngyon na eenjoy ko na gamitin as sound module ang x50. pero still studying on how to edit midi files using sonar na sinabi ni sir reycantong na "friendlier" software  :-D

at natuwa pa ako nung ginamit ko yung player ng van basco and set the output to x50...

 8-)

Sonic Cell is a  sound module at the same time usb audio interface.

your right sir alien i wanna use it as second sound source para magamit ko naman ang combi ng x50... :-D  di kasi pwedeng mag change sound pag nagplay real time and also transpose kasi habang nagplay ang midi tpos punta ng global sa x50 napuputol ang sound    at the same time di ko na kelangan ng laptop sa stage. ...
