college dorm recording. feedback appreciated. CRABCORE CONTENT

so this band asked me to record their music. i dont really like music like this but i took it as a challenge. most pro engineers have to work with music they really dont like so.... i thought what the hey...

i just came from a long flight so ill post how this was done tomorrow morning. in the meantime, all i could say is that i used a fake sm58.

is this the same thing as "screamo?" 

first few seconds, i was thinking "the vocals are drowning in the mix."  a few seconds later:  "good thing they mixed it that way."

all except for drums was recorded in the bassist's college dorm room. no bigger than a rich man's walk in closet. with a fake sm58. amp used was actually a tiny bass practice amp. it was an exercise in patience and resourcefulness. plugins used: Generic multi band eq. generic Gate. generic non-graphical compressor. monitoring: grandma's ancient sound system, cdrking headphones. fuel: booze and cheap food from the barbecue spot next door.

id like to hear some comments on the production vs the genre of music they play. its going to be redundant to rag on the genre since i noted that i dont like it.

 i just had to do this for the sake of expanding my CV (and having a little money to buy better gear)

this was my reply in the original thread:
I'm no sound engineer but the gritty bass and the snare sound are in the "same spectrum". i think it would work better if the drums lost some of its "natural harmonics" or if the snare is a bit tighter sounding. as for the vocals, maybe double track a lower scream/growl since now it's a bit thin sounding.

waw crabcore nga! pero maganda parin yung quality ng recording kahit low budget ang gamit. minsan iniisip ko kahit crappy ang gamit mo pero magaling mag mix ang sound engineer, kaya parin pagandahin.

WOw nice record and mix bro!! Considering na sa dorm lang ginawa ayus!! Yung mga gitarista and bassist dun sumsaksak sa "tiny bass practice amp" tapos tinapatan mo nalang ng "fake SM58" yung practice amp? Ganun ba setup mo bro? Ano audio interface gamit mo?
