Anyone still enamored with the Marshall MG series?
« on: December 07, 2011, 01:11:01 PM »
I know I sold 'em for a reason, and I'll maintain that's what I heard out of it... but the thing is, it seems to creep back into my psyche every now and then.  After all, I can remember a few notable experiences.. is it just the jam energy of the band that time, is it just the absurd volume you can get with these thing, or maybe... just the friggin' faceplate?

Would you consider the 30FX or 30DFX among the high-wattage ones? :? Lots of rehearsal spaces have 'em, and the gain channel gets abused a lot too.

even though it may be an MG, but it's still a Marshall.

I don't have one. But the higher watt ones sounds satisfying.

Totoo. Parang ang ganda ng tunog niya sa totoo lang. Warm. Ok din sa pedals.

They're not that bad. But they don't really stand out either. These days there are others that can sound just as good and cheaper to boot.

I don't mind using one, but I will never delude myself by associating an MG with a JCM800.

i hate these amps, it just doesnt do well with my pedals sa live gigs. Peavey amps are more pedal friendly based sa experience ko. Kaya pag naggig kame and those MGs are the house amps, patay! I dont know if I just lack proper tweaking but I can get the sound that I want easier with other amps..

Piece of crap. Try to look for the Marshall Valvestate series na lang. I'd rather do a Yamaha J25 or 35 and mated to pedals rather than bear the single - trick ear-piercing tone of a Marshall MG.

Those Yamaha J amps are really good. I fell in love with the JX35 at Mike's place. Sparkly cleans!

I did have an MG50DFX for 5 years. Served me well. I got lucky because I've read some reliability issues over the past years. Buti nalang walang naging problema yung amp ko. It's good, but for the price I paid for it back then, sana iba nalang kinuha ko. It's good but there are better.  :)

Prefer the transtubes as well, if it weren't so damned... vanilla cool-aid.  Yung MG's they seem to have that rawk out look to them, and I think it's largely faceplate related. :-D And judging from the amount of MG's I've seen come and go in the classifieds, it seems a lot of people also have the same impressions with its tonal qualities and versatilities (i haven't shared my thoughts on it so far hehehe).  In contrast, where the damned hell are the red-stripe peavey studio pros and bandits?  Since my initial registration at philmusic, seems only 1-3 units have grazed the pages, and I do regret selling mine.  I steer clear of the MG's, but they're everywhere!!

True. Bad amps, imo.

It's the kind of amp an uninformed kid would buy because of the name (and I guess yun naman target buyers nila).

But they're everywhere haha andaming places na mg gamit.

i wouldnt say im enamored with them, but they are cases you have to use what is provided to you

my marshall amp in pinas is a valvestate head + cab,

but i've used mg's too..overall i think the stock speaker is fizz. but you can work with the amp, dialing the right amount of settings..

there are tons of better amps out there for the price value,

feature=related

But even those old Park amps were at par with the Valvestates back in the 90's, weren't they?
