« on: September 07, 2006, 01:42:05 AM »
i've learned alot about the music business here in the uk and its pretty much the same with the us. Im just wondering if we got the same thing in the PI i mean may Musicians Union ba tayo where we could seek for legal advice from music lawyers? and what about copyrighting songs. Do we have a library of congress there where we could get our songs copyrighted or is it the same here in england na ok lang yung poor mans copyright?

Basically they help you not to get ripped off by your record company. Im just wondering whats the equivalent of this societies there in philippines.

From a 2003 online article:

"The new Filscap board continues to promote and propagate the intellectual rights of musical artists under RA 8293. For any use of musical property in a public performance in public places (radio, TV, cable, hotels, restaurants, shops, moviehouses, theaters, department stores, supermarkets, coffeeshops, dancing/music schools, airlines, offices, etc.), please get in touch with Filscap at 1365 E. Rodriguez Sr. ave, (+63 2 721-3903, 721-3768, 410-0733, 411-1115).

The newly inducted Filscap board is composed of George Canseco, Heber Bartolome, Nonoy Tan, Vehnee Saturno, John Lesaca, Snaffu Rigor, Emmie Domingo, Junn Sta. Maria, Marivic Benedicto, Bella Dy-Tan, Rudy Tee, Ramon Chuaying and Wally Chamsay."

:!:  Just a heads up on this.  I always keep a look out for anyone thinking of using the poor mans copyright.  Take a look at the the poor mans copyright website before commiting yourself to it.  It's not as easy to use as people think.
