Make sure you dont use a I/8" TRS - to - XLR male cable and plug it to a mixer with phantom power on! I use a 1/8" TRS - to - two 1/4" TS cable, the former plugged into the earphone jack of your laptop and the latter into a stereo line-level input of your mixer. vlc media player and youtube have plenty of songs though be wary of IP rights  :-D

kung wala ka pang laptop, maganda ang compact, yung sa middle ng notebook pati laptop ang size. mas madaling i-pack at maliit although mas mabagal sa laptop. special mention ko lang ang mga toshiba laptops. gamit ko sa work is toshiba portege. matagal ang battery life ng toshiba laptops, although more expensive.

GENERAL TIP: try minimizing yung mga desktop presentation (such as desktop effects) to increase performance, para hindi lagging kapag nagpa-play.

A lot of people don't know this but most important is to shut down the internal microphone of the laptop !!!
Mostly the ones who rent out their projectors( the picture and movie guy's and girls), yes, the one's always "spoiling your light effects with their 500 watt halogeen construction light on a wooden stick :-(  )  have no clue about this and put their items close to your speakers with their internal mic still working..
Guess what?
Who has feedback all the time?
Rule nr. ONE to projector rental folks:
"Shut down the internal laptop mic to avoid feedback in the sound system !!"
2: make sure that their volume is about 50 % in their laptop to avoid clipping and distortion in your incoming signal.....
3: make sure that their internal sound card has no effects on like echo etc...
4: make sure their equalizer is flat so you are the one to control the tone and not them ! If their signal is to much bass you are the one in trouble...
If they don't know how to fix their settings ask them if you are allowed to do it in their laptop....

Ps, this goes also for your own laptop, no internal mic on, no effects in the sound card and flat equalizer.............

My 2 cents...

+1. True for not just for laptops for soundsystem rentals but for any and all laptop out there, regardless of use. I also suggest the ff.: Disable Autoplay on your laptop so that an infected removable drive's malware can't worm their way easily in. Next copy only the pertinent file from the guest removable drive and paste it on your desktop. Remove the guest drive and scan the pertinent file pasted on your desktop with a reputable and updated antimalware (e.g., Avira, Avast, AVG, Bidefender Free) or two (an on-demand only scanner with no real-time protection wont slow your laptop down.) Open the file only if your confident it's clean  :-D Dont keep large files on your desktop, most AV sparse the desktop regularly, causing slowdown. As few running apps as needed, of course. Update all your drivers, browsers, plugins, flash players, java apps, etc. It's tedious I know, but the reason why maraming malware around is its too taxing for most people to do the above. We have two laptops and at least 1 pc setup as above and we very seldom run into malware trouble the past decade, the few infections we've had were caused by other people's ineptness :-(. Observe good user account control. Learn how to use Comodo Firewall. It's free and is second to none. You can even use the free Comodo Internet Security Suite as their AV has improved greatly as per av-test.org's evaluation. YMMV of course $0.02 only  :)
