lol, maxi i think pickup + neck are the bigest factors on an electric guitar's overall tone. IMO

Agree as well. More than the body wood can contribute.

Aside from wood, hardware, and electronics.. how about the finish used? :nosebleed: If I was a corksniffer, I can probably put some detailed input about tone difference between nitro, lacquer, polyurethane, etc.

prolly.

now that I really think about it...parang mahirap talaga ma-gauge or quantify ang contributions of the parts to the overall package....

everybody may have different perceptions/opinions based on experience or in some cases, lack thereof....

I agree that electronics( lalo na't active setup) may heavily saturate or render tonewood virtually useless to the overall tone,

but IMO I think there are too many variables to make a "golden" set of parameters for "What makes guitar tone."

are the pots and electronics included in the "other". coz they are not mentioned and they also contribute to the "sound" of the guitar.

tone is in the decal. to some, 90% ang contribution nun.  yun ang magic.

@Xelly and kym

Strings malaki ang factor I think, pero ang hirap din i-factor IMO dahil ito ang constantly changed variable in the tone equation i believe. 8-)

What if you have a one piece body? So roughly 35% Parang kulang pa din. I have to agree on j-sonic, pero plus the body wood. So id say around 70% sa total wood ng guitar. I have a tele with an ash body, so naturally it has some mid scoop. Swapped to a stronger pickup and the wood's tone is still very much audible. If you have a mahogany based guitar like an SG, you'll know that it'll sound as mid punchy as it is no matter what pickup you put it.

Ganito naman ang tingin ko.

Wood (everything) - 30%
Pickups - 30%
Nut - 10%
Saddle -10%
Strings 15%
Others (caps,glue,finish,etc.) - 5%

IMHO

I said neck and fingerboard at 70% because the finger board is the playing surface of a guitar. It also determines the feel. I've tried using the same neck, and putting it on different bodies. The feel is the same, playability is the same, only the tone changes because of different body wood and pick up combinations. One example of fingerboard as the real playing surface is the Chapman Stick.

Unplugged the pickups give 0.00%  :-D

Plugged the wood is almost nil, especially with high output pickups with tons of effects and through a high powered amp.  Try hearing the wood in death metal music.

Then the player's senses, prior experiences and biases overrides everything.  We as human beings cannot use one sense without using another at the same time. It's physiologically impossible, especially when it comes to analyzing information.  If we do that we won't survive this world as humans.  Tandem senses help us make sense of the world.   It's called the "mcgurk effect"

This is what I believe.  But feel free to believe what you like  :)
