Eric Johnson's tone?

Here is a DIY Eric Johnson. From complex to simple setup.

I followed the steps using the available effects in my Multi (an old one that that Digitech Rp-3) and I nearly got it.

You won't sound like Eric Johnson unless you play like him. Pedal is just part of the whole. 

you will need a fender strat and about 10 years x 8 - 10 hours a day practicing if you want to "sound" like EJ. Joe Bonamassa did not leave his room all through out his teens and he got the licks. If you give him a raon strat and a local amp he will still "sound " the same. I know a guitarist (Tuned) who make any guitar sound good. He doesnt need a whole lot of gears just to sound good.

parang search for the holy grail yan..  sa nabasa ko...most of his tones nasa kamay nya...yun 'blooming tone' 'pahugot pick attack nya, napaka arte sa lahat ng bagay ni ej...yun hand style nya nasa "The Art of Guitar"...then paninipisin mo paint sa likod ng strat...tapos wala dapat pintura yun pinaglalagyan ng bridge ...tapos yun hinliliit mo' dapat sing haba ng middle finger.Lol.i have a friend na obsessed kay ej, puro ej songs lang alam nya..kaso hindi makuha yun tone...ayun, nag bass guitar.lol.that was 10 years ago, dami na gadgets to be close to his tone...i'm sure madami na dito sa forum na very close ang setup sa sound nya..pa post naman mga vids nyo mga idols

Ang ganda ng cleans niya dito but his overdriven tone is... a bit underwhelming compared to the studio. Still amazing to watch each time though, bilis magswitch from clean to OD.

Mas maganda pa IMO yung OD tone ni markvillar dito (posted earlier by ryechua):

Yerp, BK Butler. Pero di sya bagay sa Fender tweed. Nung sinaksak ko sa clean tweed, naalala ko si EJ. Nung kinalabit ko na.. meh.

Siguro kung sa plexi isaksak. Hehe.

Ui nice BK Butler Tube Driver talaga... yung saken Chandler Tube Overdrive. Sabi ni BK mali daw circuit ng Chandler... hindi daw yun original nya design. Badtrip. Wahaha..

There has been a problem between them kaya nya sinasabi yun. I know that Chandler is still doing the Tube Driver thing, syempre marketing strategy.

...anyone can still be close to EJ's tone without the TD, Mark Villar did it!

bought a cheapo tele for a steal dito last week - no ej tones from it...yet

bilib talaga ako sa tone niya. a simple sounding yet complex. pano ba atake ni ej sa strings niya? i especially like his tone live, and among his recorded works, yung timpla sa "Tones" pinaka nagustuhan ko........at pilit hinahabol!
