Philmusic - "GC-approved" guitars/amps/pedals/miscellaneous
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:26:55 PM »
Inspired by TheGearPage.net forum members' tendency to patronise certain brands of guitars, amplifiers and effects, I think it would be worthwhile to gather the opinions of fellow GC forumites regarding which brands/models we all "approve" collectively, especially the long-time guitarists, enthusiasts and "Philmusicus Addicti" in an effort to point the newer members in the right direction when selecting their own gear.

To clarify, I am referring to equipment which may be new to the uninitiated members' eyes/ears, but have been determined to be "sulit" purchases by multiple members of the community. Mid- to high-end brands such as Fender, Gibson, and Marshall may or may not be included.

I will begin by listing below some of the gear that, time and time again, I have seen mentioned by members to be good pieces of equipment.

Guitars:
1. Greg Bennett guitar line (Formula, Avion, etc.)
2. Phoebus acoustic guitar line

Amps:
1. Stagg solid-state amplifier line (20 GA, 40 GA, 60 GA, etc.)
2. ZT amplifier line (Lunchbox, Club, etc.)
3. Roland Cube line (60, Blues Cube, etc.)
4. Goldea tube amplifier line (AT-30, AT-50, etc.)

Effects:
1. Danelectro Cool Cat series (CTO-1/2, CC-1, etc.)
2. MarkV pedal line (Shredhead, modded Boss pedals)

Feel free to add to the list any other brand/s that have been discussed here in recent times.

Price depends on when it was bought and the demand at the time. It cannot be used as reference if it was bought a long time ago.

In any case, this thread is meant to be a repository of equipment that multiple users of the GC community agree to be of good quality. If you recall anything that other members agree to be good (better if they own/have experience of owning the equipment themselves), please add them to the list.

I remembered a couple more brands.

Pedals:

* Joyo line (Vintage Overdrive, Ultimate Drive, etc.)
* Mooer mini pedals line

To keep the fire alive, I'll add some more equipment/brands which are popular in the community so far.

Effects:
* Zoom multi-effects series (Multistomp MS50G/MS100BT/MS70CDR, G3/X, G5, etc.)

Misc.:
* Stagg UPC series pedalboards

The most sulit amp I've ever had the pleasure of using is the Fender Mustang III V2. It's 100W, has tons of realistic amp models and effects, super easy to use and only weighs 32 lbs. Wala na akong pedalboard, at hindi na rin ako makahanap ng reason to buy more pedals. Ito lang ang dala ko sa rehearsals at gigs. And since it has an open back, may space pa for my footswitches and cables.

EDIT: And +1 sa Samson TourTek Cables. I've been using them for years.

Mas maganda siguro kung yung less popular or smaller companies/brand names and mainclude dito. Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, PRS, Boss, etc. are somewhat exempted.
