B+ voltages in a Laney Cub 10
« on: October 22, 2015, 02:39:23 PM »
Hello! Looking to see if I can mod it to use 6L6GCs e.
I'd rather be sharp than flat.

interesting yan bro.. kapag hindi lumampas ng 270V ang B+ supply ng 6V6→ go palitan mo ng 6L6GC.. sure yan may additional kang 4.5W to your music power..

DISCREPANCY:

► modify na lang yun current limiter kasi there's atleast 50mA difference that i can see from the sheet.. baka lang magkaron ng difference sa quality ng amplification kasi kapos ng 50mA ang 6L6GC sa current limit cofiguration ng 6V6..
► watch out din for a higher grid current pag dating sa 6L6GC since may difference (higher) ng atleast 1750 umhos (transconductance).. so expect a higher THD%.. not unless adjust ang grid bias..

But all in all.. i hope to see what's the outcome of your project bro..

Cheers!

Hmm, actually ang problem ko nga Emil is that baka yung B+ ng Laney Cub 10 e masyadong mababa. I'm hoping to get around 300v or even higher nga sana, para mas maximize yung 6L6. I think yung pinost mong data for 6L6 is Class A operation; AFAIK kaya na mas mataas ng B+ yung mga 6L6 (550v if I'm not mistaken). I'll be happy if I get 25w-30w out of a 6L6 modded Laney Cub 10.

Yung bias voltage tricky, kasi usually ang range ng 6L6 -60vdc to -39vdc sa grid, pero at 400vdc b+ yun so baka pwede, but I'll still modify to be sure lang na I can get a good bias voltage.

kung nasa 450VDC ang plate voltage, it's ok to have -35VDC to -39VDC grid bias.. for a 400VDC i guess safe sa -25VDC.. pero if ever you can get that 318VDC (225VAC x 1.414) i guess safe tayo sa -20VDC (given a range of +/-10V) na ibibigay din ng 6V6 grid bias setting.. maganda tutunog sa -60VDC pero baka mapapabilis lang ang buhay ng 6L6GC.. anyways, the values i gave eh just for safety lang naman..  it's worth to try din bending grid bias..

nice!

Malamang i tweak ko nga yung grid bias. Di naman siguro mapapabilis ang 6L6 sa -60 kasi less ang plate current draw because hinaharang ng grid yung cathode to plate current.

We'll see, hehehe.

Update:

Unloaded, B+ is at about 337vdc. 260vdc after I put in a pair of Sovtek 6L6WXT+. Yep, that's right --- the Laney Cub 10 worked with 6L6s.

Found my old notes from 2012. 287V when I first put in the still current JJ 6v6's. Glad to know someone went through checking it out with 6L6s.
