CAD M179
« on: January 17, 2007, 12:21:58 PM »
I'm considering to buy this mic, anyone got this piece? Please share your experience. If you don't own please share what are your thoughts about this mic. I think this a well rounded mic for a budget.

CADs are one of the few mics still made in the US. I like the M179 because it has selectable polar patterns. Nakakatakot lang yung current requirements. If the mic pre can't deliver, it might change the sound of the mic.

never used the M179 but CAD mics are very well made mics, you just have to know what you are getting because they have a character to them very much like Blue mics do. Look at the freq specs and match it with what you are going to use the mic for whether it is drums, vocals or guitars. I just got the CAD Trion 7000 and I like it. The mic can take a pretty high SPL but like other ribbon mics, they are a bit gain hungry so you have to be careful with the blending, otherwise, mixdowns are going to be a pain.

I've been reading good things about the Trion, abyss. Maybe you can post a mini review sometime.

Thanks for the responses.

I don't own yet a decent vocal mic (I supposed) but I have to get one in a limited budget. I have a project soon to track a female with husky, low voice, a bit nasal. I have no experience of this kind of voice. So I'm thinking about the M179 because of its selectable polar patterns and trust that I can play around to match her voice.

CADs are one of the few mics still made in the US.
Yes it is, but I'm not sure about GXLs I read that these are made in China that is why are cheap.

you can also try one of the SE Large Diaphragm mics - wonderful pieces. Most of them do not have selectable patterns (AFAIK) but you can position one in a sweet spot, and pair it with a nice tube pre to get some really nice smoky-room-with-tons-of-swagger type of Jazz tone from a lower pitched voice.

Presyong Adik!

may nakita naman ako dati sa eBay ala lang akong pera that time nag bebenta ng Neumann M149 for $500 lang almost 25k pesos lang sobrang nakakapang hinayang :(

It's good for a starter mic, especially a condenser. The stellar ATs are the AT4060 and AT4055, I think.

Looks like a good deal, Hunter. AFAIK, the M179 doesn't come stock with a shockmount.

The seller replied in e-mail that this does comes with shockmount. There is another deal that cost 170USD comes with shockmount, pop filter, and 20' XLR cable. The seller can deliver worldwide.

Anyone of you ordered before in eBay? Any bad or good experience? I'm pretty new in eBay and cautious  :|
