Jazz Fusion guitar question
« on: October 14, 2007, 11:26:10 AM »
Long time no post. Magandang Umaga mga sirs...

Just a question.

I've noticed that majority of guitar players into the fusion business use an Ibanez or an Ibanez copy guitar. Is this guitar type a chice of the players due to its exacting tone in terms of fusion or is it more of just preference on the part of the player?
Your knowlegde on the subject matter is appreciated.

thank you.

Padagdag din po. Mawalang-galang na po ngunit "choice" po't hindi "chice".  :-D

Naku. gear vs. fingers na naman...

Anyway, here's the short answer to that...

CHARACTER belongs to the PLAYER (i.e. technique, style, signature riffs, etc).

TIMBRE belongs to the GEAR (and how the gear is set-up or tuned).

GEAR/INSTRUMENT RESPONSE is the connection between the player and the gear.  What responds best to the player's style and techniques is what a player looks for to achieve superior performance.

Pwede rin dahil shred unang influence nila bago sila nag-fusion...

ei.

ako din a, LONGEST time no post, nasa labas na ksi nang cubicle tong PC. Tsk tsk tsk ang lungkot meyn..

Anyway.

Ibanez for fusion -

1. Dahil may Floyd: pag bigla kang kinating mag wewaaaawaaaawauurgh..pwede
2. You get the best of worlds with the usual Ibby HSH Set-up. Clean rounded tone from the Neck Humbuckers, the in between sounds (positions 2 and 4) for funky rhythm work, and when the need to crank up and evoke Greg Howe, you have the Bridge Humbuckers.

Maybe.

Again, maybe not. :-)

Soli Deo Gloria.

maybe because these so called "fusion" guitar players like Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Scott Henderson, are endorsers of Ibanez Guitars... other jazz guitarist like John Scofield, Pat Metheny, George Benson & the late great maestro Joe Pass even have their own signature series...John Abercrombie used to play an Ibanez  Artstar...

The guitars are of course a matter of taste or lack thereof.
