Fender does not have a monopoly on guitar luthiery. Luthiers can make better and more accurate copies than the fender ones. Some copies have parts from EVH himself, i.e. an EVH owned and used neck or tremolo that was discarded by EVH.
It's illegal to sell DIY painted EVH clones in the states tho. The fender ones are the only legal copies that can be sold. If you want to own one like this, you can buy the fender ones or you can DIY. You can paint and slap one together with the same (or better) parts for about $800. Specs and how to make the guitar are all over the net. Some luthiers even specialize in providing parts for EVH clones.
Having said that, the 300 Fender copies will appreciate in value beyond it's $25,000 price tag. So if I had Donald's account, I'd buy ALL 300 guitars AND the original.
