ako sir my kit might not be as expensive as some members in our forum, pero i try to make my bass kit have it's oomph sound, meaning yung deep sound niya with attack, i use a CS remo on my resonant side(pwede din iba as long as
double ply yung resonant para it can withstand the pressure you're giving, tapos a
single ply on my batter(stock heads lang will do), linagyan ko lang ng duct tape at small karton para mas tumagal yung buhay ng skin, tapos isang maliit na car pillow. tapos isang malupit at matagal na fine tuning. hehehe some try to tune their bass drums on "C", pero what sounds good to your ears is most important. i agree that putting so much pillow not only makes your kit look bad but also hinders the natural sound of your bass drum's wood and it also limits the deep sound for your bass drum. it worked for me...hope this helps. godbless.
