building a soundproof booth
« on: February 06, 2008, 06:30:00 PM »
akala ko dati makalipat lang ako ng bahay e one-to-sawa na ang pagdadrums pero mali pala. my neighborhood is very quiet (day and night) and i dont want my new neighbors to be annoyed with me nor do i want to tear down a house that i recently bought. kahit na mag implement ulit ako nung self-imposed limits sa oras ng pagpalo e nakakahiya pa rin kasi masyado talaga maingay.

if you want to know how quiet my neighborhood is, i know when my neighbor from across the street is having dinner because i can hear the clanging of plates and utensils from inside my drum room  :-o

so, i was looking at building a small 5x4x6 feet enclosure for drums like this one

1. air-tight dapat yung enclosure di ba para maiwasan yung sound leakage kaya pano ko gagawing airtight? ok na ba yung silicon caulk? by the way im thinking of using a mix of acrylic and gypsum boards for the walls and ceiling

2. sakaling air-tight na sya, pano naman ako hihinga sa loob? any ideas for a good ventilation solution?

3. concrete floor yung room, how can i isolate the drums from the floor? one solution im looking at is by doing this drum riser thingy from plywood and tennis balls

thoughts?

im also building an edrum kit to allevate the noise issue pero gusto ko talaga acoustic

and naisip ko you don't really have to take the full sound off from your drums parang diba you just have to take most of the sound para ndi lang marinig sa kapitbahay ninyo but you can still hear sa slight noise sa loob ng bahay ninyo na ndi nakakairita... so i guess you can make vents or something then put a fan sa loob ng booth mo...

naisiip ko din pede ka gumawa sa ibabaw ng exhaust fan and put a fan din sa loob then yung exhaust fan mo put a vent na may filter like na cloth material para ma absorb niya yung soundwaves sa paglabas...
ayos!

you can build a room within a room and have floor riser, false ceiling and wall insulation to fully soundproof your drum room. this does not require tearing anything down from the existing house structure but WILL require building new studs to support the new walls, insulation chamber and new drywall.

Those kind of booths (as pictured will give you minimal insulation.  Better to put thick curtains around the walls of your room, and temper your playing.  The only problem is a lot of high frequency will be sucked in by the drapes.  If you want to save, do something with the most minimal expense - damp the room.
