question about cheap snares

bakit puro stainless ang shell ng mga cheap na snares?
stainless nga ba yun?

kung production costs ang reason, bakit di nalang sila gumamit ng mababang klase ng kahoy?

i think it's not stainless man.

i think they use metal because metal production is easy.

i.e pouring metal into ready made molds or shaping sheet metal into circles.

unlike in wood, which requires a lot of tricky methods

i.e sanding, adding of the "angle" on the ends, painting, laquering, shaping the wood on a round position.

They are not stainless, I think that would cost more, they use plain steel and chrome it.

Ralph is right, production using wood will cost more for the manufacturer due to its more tedious processes.

ang cheap ay yung nabili namin last thursday. 8500 ang isang set
premiere ung tatak. sabi ko nga, gawa nanaman sa metal ung snare. nayupi kagad!

some low-end kits go with wood snares already. i think they use the same type of wood for their toms and snare, but may differ from the plies.

our church has a Pearl-nando kit...hehehehe. the snare is already made of wood.

i think they use cheap snares since that's usually the first drum that you'll replace.

I can remember some old drums i saw na parang carton boxes lang yung ply nya at nung nabasa ng bagyo eh naguho yung shells....

Mas mahirap i produce ang wood shell than steel. Pag wood consider it's wood, then molding process, then edging, then wrapping. Eh pag steel, it starts with steel sheet, cutting, then welding, then chroming.

Eto formula ng cheap steel snare.


Cheap Steel sheet + cheap hardware + cheap heads = CHEAP SNARE


It doesn't mean it's cheap eh cheap naren tunog. Minsan chempuhan kasi yung Mittelo Steel snare ko eh panalo lalo na nung pina powder coat ko sha! And almost all snare will somehow sound good if tuned pretty high!

my 13x3 piccolo is not branded, but yet, still humiliated the tama superstar stock snare due to proper tuning.

the shell's material can definitely affect the sound, but a good tuning can help.

hindi siya katulad ng design ng carton...para bang, hmm..para ba siyang cork na pinatigas. sa nakita ko, hoop and claw ang gamit niya..i think 6 lugs lang yun..

ang problema lang sa cheap snares na bakal minsan hindi bilog yung hoops. minsan oblong. kasya pa rin naman kaso ang hirap. yung saken mukhang bulaklak na yung hoop. pero cguro na rin dahil sobrang higpit ko mag tono.
