they say that chinese made guitars are bad, i used to own chinese made guitars (not epi, though), and the craftsmanship wasn't good.

but i think nasa quality control rin ng guitar companies.  :-) i doubt that Gibson/Epiphone will let their reputation go down just because they want to produce guitars for less costs.

they still make epiphones in japan, right?

yup the still make epi's on japan.. i think the reason for this is to mass produce guitars at lower cost.. honestly yung mga uS made guitars eh expensive talaga and sa shipping pa lang eh mahal na dahil malayo siya particularly kung sa south east asian side dadalhin diba.. pero i think that gibson won't let nga their reputation to go down.. siguro gusto lang talaga nila ng more production at lower costs..

btw anung mga brands ng guitar yung sinasabi mo sir slaphappy na hindi good ang craftsmanship?? can you post pics??

dami na kasi naglalabasang brand na china eh.. like global diba..

medyo OT but dean evo xm and schecter 006 deluxe.  :-) soundwise, their decent, but yung pagkakagawa, parang minadali ng mga gumagawa, may quota ata  sila

no pics na, the dean i sold for 4k, and the schecter i sold to my cousin at 8k.

what i mean at the craftsmanship is parang di sakto yung mga putol kung saan kumakabit yung neck sa body. yung mga backplate, di rin sakto sa mga cavities. sa mga headstock, may mga lagpas lagpas na paint or in my dean's case, may maliit na part na na miss nung nagpipintura. i think factory defect sya kasi may coating kaya nalaman ko na di na chip yung paint sa store. di pulido yung pagkakagawa.

 :-)

i owned a bunch of LP copies from china, some were good and some bad, it depends on what factory they came from, some where epiphones converted the headstock to gibson open book, and have the real epiphone pickups, if you put a design in china its guaranteed that template will spread to several factories,

its all about quality control and budget how these guitars will be well built

Tianjin and Weifang are also locations for factories

my ESP/LTD eclipse is china made no problems though sounds decent enough craftmanship is 8/10 eccellent finish. the only thing i didnt like is out from the box u can just tune and start to play i had to intonate it and make some adjustments on the truss rod kasi hindi swabe yung feel ng neck at first i had some doubts baka panget yung neck pero after a while and after adjusting the truss rod ok na...

+1.. I have a SX strat copy and I'm very happy with it. Kicks my cousins squier. You just have to choose the right guitar for you. Gumaganda na rin ata ung mga quality ng guitars from china. And I also agree with bryan na depende talaga sa factory kung san galing.

it really depends, its not good to say all mic guitars and their manufactures are the same, normally the use mahogany and basswood alot for bodies and mahogany and maple for necks, ebony and rosewood for fretboards, however if you have a really nice contact they can also produce for you spalted maple tops(which i have a project that will be using this), zebra wood or flamed and quilted maple tops(not veneers),ash, alder, phonenix(never saw this but hopefully soon),

they do use veneers quite often for really low budget guitars(50 usd worth strat or tele type), they charge more on the shape and its $5 more to use better wood

electronics and hardware they do use korean hardware if you tell them to do so, electronics wiring are that needs to be worked on i could say it doesnt hum but its cheap wire i tend to change these with cloth coated wires and better pots, the capacitors are what you would see in your china made epiphones, or indo or china made ibbys.

pickups, they do have alnico but mostly use ceramic, likely Semchina pickups(try visiting their website), or sometimes wilkinson licensed pups. any preferred brand will cost you extra,
