the secret behind a good mix is that you know very well your monitor speakers...

Yes! most of the time... make and model is really a factor. I know one studio owner/ recording engineer that only uses an aiwa speakers before using Yamaha NS10's. And yes... she makes great recordings/mixes.

if you're really on a budget...

Behringer's? Why Not!?
