A few tips on recording vocals...
Compress to even out peaks.
Roll off low as possible without compromising the quality.
(muddiness are results of too much low)
Here are the EQs targets of most common voice:
Fullness - 120Hz
Boomness - 240Hz
Nasal - 2K
Presense - 5k
Simbilance - 7k
Air - 12k
Dont send too much bass on reverbs. This results to mudiness.
EQ before reverb.
Compress after EQ.
This may help also:
Roll out below 100hz and above 15khz
Add 2 to 4db on 160hz - male, 320hz - female
Notch out 500 - 800hz
add a little for sparkle on 7 - 8khz.
