Same here...I've only tried dual-booting between Fedora (Linux distro) and Windows XP.

It's a bit tricky to dual-boot when you only have one physical hard disk drive which has been partitioned only into two (2) volumes. It's a reasonably easier to dual-boot between two (2) operating systems when you have two different physical drives installed in your PC.

The link provided above is a good guide...that's one of several websites I came across while researching on how to dual-boot back then.

yeah dati din Fedora 8 and XP..

kaso nung tinanggal ko yung Fedora nagkaron ako ng problems sa boot up ng XP, problem sa bootloader yata im not sure...i had to go to a nearby computer shop to do some researching and fortunately nakahanap naman ako ng fix...

i tried it with a laptop. make sure that you install w xp first and then vista on another partition. afterwards. don't ever format the first partition because you wont be able to launch vista anymore. why because the bootloader for vista is in the first partition. many have learned this the hard way. ntfs should be the file system.

guys.... if your into dual-booting...
I suggest u use third-party softwares like VMWare Workstation..

benefit wise... pag ayaw nyo na nung guest OS nyo...
you dont have to go through the hassle of removing the OS.

instantly, you can easily remove & add new OS of different kind. (linux, solaris, etc.)

just my two cents.  :-D

peace.

good suggestion, although i'd like to add that VMware Server could be a better choice, its totally free and you can get a legal copy without any cost.. and contains all basic features as the Workstation version.. they provide the serial number upon registration.. You can install Linux/*nix on top of windows or vice versa.. which is really handy if you do not want to reboot to access another OS..

anyways a nicely  configured Wine installed on Linux can enable you to run decent windows apps.. (been using Vyzex (Line 6 PocketPod/POD 2.0 editor) under Linux over wine and works great.. my fedora recognizes the pocketpod as midi device automatically..)

I already tried dual-booting a DELL Inspiron 9400 and Inspiron E1505 with Microsoft Windows Media Center Edition 2005 and Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate when I used to work with DELL for training purposes. I never had any issues. I just added additonal memory modules with both of the portables because Vista Ultimate really eats up a lot of system memory.

it's good to note though that when my son was five, he discovered how to use Grub, and strangely he always went for Suse, haha.  pwede kasi sya gumawa ng penguin games nya don.

Newbie pa lang ako sa multi-booting, pero kahapon nakapag-triple boot na ako :D

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate first, tapos FreeBSD 7.2, and Ubuntu 9.10. bale GRUB2 ang gamit kong bootloader, no problems naman whatsoever. :)

okay, 4 more OSes to go... :D

As long as you don't mess the mbr, it will be fine...

Sino na nakatry na mag dual boot ng XP at Vista? Medyo nag-aalangan ako i-try since never ko pa nagawa to eh.

Installing both Windows on 2 separate primary partitions is recommended.
Then search for tricks on tweaking the Windows Boot Manager (in your case, it's Vista Boot loader) on Google.

Actually, dual booting is easy. Things only get complicated because of Windows, because it usually f*cks up the MBR and makes himself recognize as the ONLY operating system in your hard drive.

You can google "ntldr" and "bootmgr" for booting tips related to XP and Vista/7. Additional jargons: "boot.ini" and "bcdedit".

And another thing: Windows usually conquers the whole hard drive. Two options would be (1) reformatting the hard drive and install the 2 OSes; or (2) Shrink the volume, and create another primary partition for your second OS.
