compilation sana ng personal reviews sa products ng pickup brands like DIMARZIO, GFS, SEYMOUR DUNCAN, LACE SENSOR and OTHERS.

so people could use this thread as a basis on deciding what pickups to get for their guitar (like me) :-D

GFS pickups for me. mura lang siya (well, compared to SD and Dimarzio etc). great for finding out what really goes well with your guitars (alnico vs ceramic, alnico II vs alnico V, overwound vs PAF-spec, reverse wound vs non reverse, noiseless vs regular). after that I'd recommend Fralins / WCR / WB pickups for humbuckers, or Kinmans for single coils.

Gassing for a set of Rockfield SWC'S.

I have this set, RJ Fat Strat Noiseless, installed it in my Am Std strat before. my personal opinion:

1. Lower output than stock Am std single coils, parang same output level ng HS-2 dimarzio, but surprisingly bright sounding even with the stock pots. Not muddy at all on the lows.
2. wala kasing designation kung alin sa 3 ang pang bridge , mid , or neck, so mukang pareho-pareho lang ung set.
3. I dont get it why they call it fat strat, sounds pretty standard to me (not fat).
4. yep, noiseless, its a stacked coil design with adjustable alnico magnet poles (dont know what kind of alnico tho)
5. 1.5k per set of 3, so 500 isang pickup. di nga lang binebenta ng tinge.
6. Walang wiring diagram, 4 conductor ito e, but I found out that the white & black leads should be connected, then ung other 2 leads go to the vol & gnd, ala dimarzio.
7. no pickup covers, parang dimarzio virtual vintage blues. Love em or hate em.

8. kasya sa stock pickup hole pero you might need to enlarge a part of the hole if you want to raise the height of the pickup closer to the strings
9. no mounting screws & springs included, hassle.
10. fragile ung spool material kesa sa regular pickups.

I'm using them on a japan strat now, gig-tested, it's an ok replacement for standard single coils, sounds close to the original, with the same output level. Not for the heavy distorted sound, di kasi hot ang output. If you like a hot bridge pickup, mabibitin ka dito, better to pair it with a hot bridge pu, then neck / mid e RJ fat strat pus.

ang laki pala ng problema sa mga pickup! keep the review coming guys. magandang reference to dito sa philmusic.

so far, i just got my old, vintage rather, duncan designed jb and jazz pickup. as sir jmorero mentioned to me, and after hearing them myselft, it is indeed true that the duncan design and seymour duncan produces 2 similar but not alike pickups. funny as it may sound but i prefer the duncan design one. no regrets installing this classic pickups in my guitar. great set up too by sir jmorero.

sd jb vs duncan designed jb: mas ma treble at mejo manipis sa pandinig ko yun seymour duncan as compared sa mas ma mid at mas makapal sounding na jb bridge pickup by duncan designed, but then again, these duncan designed i got was very old na e.

Dimarzio Breed Bridge --> tunog anak ng tone zone & JB

Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell --> single coil-like. glassy and articulate.

Dimarzio Air Norton --> warm & smooth.

Duncan JB --> biting, but too bright to my taste. Matches better with heavy gauge strings & 250k pots.

Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues --> quiet but flat & somewhat dry sounding. Nothing beats the 'real' single coil.

pickups currently installed on my guitars
seymour duncan jb model - hi output bright sounding, punchy. it's good for recording hi gain guitar sounds. sounds ok for live application. good for metal.
seymour duncan 59's - i have these on my nuno bettencourt signature washburns. sound pretty good.
seymour duncan alnico ii pros - low/medium output. good for classic rock tones.
seymour duncan custom custom - somewhat similar to the jb model.
seymour duncan dimebuckers - hi output. thin when used for clean tones. very good for heavy distortion.
seymour duncan jazz models - similar to the 59 but with more bass.
seymour duncan pearly gates - similar to 59s but with more treble.
seymour duncan screaming demon - this is one of a hell of a pickup. good for clean and dirty tones. you can distinguish notes from chords with a distorted sound
seymour duncan classic stack - low output hum free single coil. i always use this as a middle pickup on ibanez guitars.
seymour duncan hot rails - single coil size with a power of a humbucker.
dimarzio evo - vai. nuff said
dimarzio paf pro - similar to sd '59s but with a little more output.
dimarzio air zone - similar to the 59
dimarzio yjm - very low output. sounds amazing with clean tone.
dimarzio hs-2 - another low output pickup
dimarzio hs-3 - another low output pickup, a little more power over the yjms

my used to have
seymour duncan parallel axis trembucker (blues saraceno) - somewhat similar to the screaming demon.
dimarzio breed - paf pro like. with more bass. too bassy for mahogany body guitars
dimarzio tonezone - it's like a 59 with more highs
nuno : n4 2.0 n4esa, n4vintage, n4 silver sparkle, n5, n6, n7, n8esa
etc : yjm, axis, jp6, jpxi, jp12, jp13, lp 58 vos, lp 57 ri, lp standard, lp trad, am strat, am tele deluxe, jem7v, uv777, rg prestige, j custom, deluxe reverb, vai legacy, jcm900, axefx

Seymour Dduncan custom custom SH11 Bridge pup-- has that crisp and bite, little brighter, not for cleans but matches great when overdriven. I like this better that the SD JB pup.

Dimarzio Evolution bridge - very hot pickup. tight lows, highs are a bit brittle, but overall a good pickup for metal or hard rock. picks up harmonics very well so pinchers will love this pickup. also, this pickup will force you to be a cleaner player coz it picks up every nuance of your playing ( mga sabit, unmuted strings, etc.) so you'll have to clean up your technique or you'll sound like crap!

Dimarzio PAF pro - in the neck position it has glassy cleans especially when wired in parallel. distorted, it sounds huge, great for shred techniques like speed picking, legato, sweeps. has this nice rounded tone, perfect compliment to a hot bridge pickup

SD Full Shred - not so tight lows but good lower midrange, very nice for playing crunchy riffs. This baby screams when pinching strings, 80s metal fans will love this pickup. Comparing this pickup to my dimarzios, it sounds a bit more organic, its cleaner when distorted. Like the way it sounds in my Fender floyd rose strat.

right now, i'm loving the van zandt vintage plus strat pickup. simple, sweet, and straight up honest strat tone.

the rio grande grande halfbreed is a great pickup if you want meat in the bridge position of your strat. almost tele-ish. i don't like it so much in the neck position though.
