"Today" by Smashing Pumpkins (rebeltube's Brief Review)

Ever feel depressed and you needed a song just to smack your head out of that zone. Well Mr. Corgan may have a cure for your "EMOtional Malfunction".

With it's cloaked depressing lyrics and euphoric melody, it's absolutely a f***ing positively sad song... I think that the real greatness of this song is the fact that it could sound so HOPELESS and yet beautiful at the same time. The song may both complimented and contradicted itself.

It's catchy guitar solo represents that everything on the surface is happy and right. The depressing words show how, if you look beneath the surface you find a whole world of darkness and hurt. It really is brilliant. In many ways, its about more than suicide, its practically a world view of everything having a nice appearance but a sad and futile depth to it. Genius in every sense. It is a perfect example of how you can't take the Pumpkins' lyrics at face value, no matter how straight-forward they may seem.
