mga kapatid, tips naman dyan.

we a keyboardist, acoustic guitarist, and two electric guitarists. ako yung isa and doing leads kapag may pagkakataon, or kung hindi makakakuha ng attention during worship. our keyboardist doesn't usually do the "filling" of the music. so mahirap din singitan ng plucking yung ibang songs kasi sya na gumagawa. so ang filler is usually the guitars. i also do vox voicings, kaya i end up using chords and power chords (di pa ko masyado sanay pagsabayin e). i just see to it that i do the higher octave chords para di kami pareho ng isang electric guitarist.

baka mabigyan nyo kami ng tips para magkaron ng distinction ang bawat instrument namin. keys, acoustic, elec1, and elec2. yung 1 electric guitarist namin uses a dist pedal, and her amp's OD for effects. ako naman amp's OD, a chorus and a delay (looped).

we play darrell evans, paul baloche, hillsong, our community's compositions. mixed ang tinutugtugan namin. may pang youth and pang elders minsan. minsan magkasama sa isang event.

Pwede naman kayo magplay in unison e, tipong pare-pareho yung strummed chords nyo pero make sure that you're playing the same rhythm pattern (including strumming) or nagcocomplement ang rhythm ng chords and notes ninyo.

Basta maganda ang blend sa mix, then there is harmony. Keep in mind na kung Christian music ang tugtugan, hindi individual "glorification" ang objective kundi leading the people in worship. Kung yung collective effort nyo eh nakakagawa nun, then mission accomplished na. Pero kung solohan naman ang balak mo, kailangan mo ng booster or kailangan pihitin ng sound tech at the right moment yung timpla sa mix para umangat yung level nung sosolo.

Sa band namin, core yung bassist, drummer and rhythm guitarist while ako medyo in the middle. I play a lot of ambient stuff and I play solos too. May violinist and saxophone player pa kasi kami so hindi pwedeng puro sa akin ang mga linya. Minsan yung rhythm guitarist yung nagsosolo pag trip ko lang mag-rhythm all the way. Kung pareho kayong naka-OD/distortion sa isang part ng kanta, one electric guitarist can play the chords while another can add texture to the song by doing octaves. That way, mapapakapal mo yung tunog ninyo, distinct yung ginagawa mo and at the same time, hindi distracting pakinggan.

Another thing I do pag multiple guitarists is I play arpeggios of the chords pero ini-invert ko yung chords para mas interesting pakinggan.

Lincoln Brewster
Chris Tomlin
Tim Hughes
Planetshakers
Ron Kenoly
The Smithton Outpouring (with Lincoln Brewster on guitar)
Abraham Laboriel and Friends
etc.

communication dapat kayo, who's doing what and whatsoever, if you have a music director, that's his job. kung wala, someone should step up to make things smoothly...

wala dapat kanya kanya, pagalingan at "i'll do everything" mentality that's why its a team effort. you should give time to plan the songs you play... you should talk to your fellow worship team na spend more time practicing... and of course hingi ng gabay kay God.

at pahabol pa, kung bago lang ang team, give time, magkakaintindihan din kayo... magbibigayan at magiging mas sensitive sa isa't isa at ang role nila sa bawat kanta. but of course you can speed things up if someone is guiding the team... that could be you or the worship leader or the music director. if you have ideas be bold in saying it to the team. :-) :-) :-) :-)

Our church was contacted by the Unshamed organizer the other day. It looks like our team is taking the 7pm slot. This means we're one of the opening acts for the night.

Great! I think we're playing at 8:30pm. I'll have to confirm it pa, though. Taga-saang church ka, beachhead? :)

Sinong nakinig sa "Against the Flow" sa NU kahapon? Haha! Para kaming ewan sa radio interview :lol:

Grabe, ngayon ko lang nakita to...
Nasobrahan ata ako sa classifieds lately.

@tuyuta
Try doing some delayed broken chords on the High E to G strings (mala the Edge ng U2) and some delayed harmonics(kapag bagay sa kanta). Kung kaya ng guitar mo (as in the case ng strats), try doing volume swells with delay na mala-pads/strings. Sobrang simple, kaso fills up nicely without muddying the overall sound.

Sometimes din, sacrifice ka muna by not playing some parts of the song na sobrang kapal/gulo na. Wala namang pakielaman yun kapag worship mode na e.

Hope this helps. :-D

@Poundcake
Great insights master Ian.

@farleysbeat
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

maraming salamats sa mga posts. actually, ganun ang role ko as lead guitars. kapaga magkapal na ang sound, sa vox nako umaalalay, lalo na't kapag makapal na makapal na ang rhthym section. i also do the "broken" chords lalo na't kapag nasa E, A, or B ang keysig, with delay and/or with chorus. basta pinakikinggan ko ang bawat instruments, and papasukan ko nalang kung saan may "empty space." talagang kelangan jam ng jam para matuto makipagpakiramdaman.

baka kasi sakaling may namimiss pa akong idea re worship songs. actually mahirap din kasi ako din nagpaplano ng mix, and as of now, wala pa kong nakikita na pedeng marunong mag mix.

and ang problema pa namin is busy lahat. ako lang ata nagprapractice individually, hehehe. kasi gusto ko kapag sa mismong event, e magwoworship nalang ako. yung details ng playing, sa practices na nakuha so lalabas nalang yun basta. and bagito pa kaming lahat kaya we're still in the "journey" sa band playing.

maraming salamats & Godbless

Encourage mo lang sila na mag-practice at try nyong manood ng concerts as a group (Unashamed sa friday o). For us malaking encouragement maka-nood ng live performances. Or kahit mga concert DVD's. Madalas nakaka-challenge mag-practice at magpa-ganda ng gamit.

@wannabeguitarist
Pretty much sure na ginawa nila yung "O come let us adore Him." Wala pa kaming line-up for the Christmas season e, per week kasi dumadating yung mga line-up namin for Sunday.
