@death by exposure
well to be honest, Im not a punk but I listen to all kinds of music. I listen to punk music too, but wearing mo-hawk and leather jackets does not go along with my personality, where I am a peace loving creature. I just noticed that punk music, is a type of music that is simple and If one would compose a song, punk is the easiest to do. well musicality it does not require that much technicalities only attitude and thats cool.

@the nong, your strat set-up reminds me of a hello kitty guitar set-up..so hello kitty guitar can be used for punk too :)

@24242009

that would be the point of my post sir... :) we must all (in any genres) prioritize THE MUSIC ITSELF and not other factors that is related with it... :) just my personal opinion... :) peace! :)

@the nong

i really dig Fender guitars that are modified for this music!!! aside from Tom Delonge and Deryck Whibley modifying their 'Casters, i really love the modification Steve Klein (New Found Glory) did to his Jazzmaster!!!!

1 pickup, 1 knob and a fixed bridge!!

THIS WOULD BE MY NEXT DREAM PROJECT GUITAR!!!!!
How can you tell a person whether the band he or she listens to is RIGHT or WRONG?

BTW, I really need your comments on this one... i photoshopped an image of my next project guitar.. :) inspired by Steve Klein's and Thurston Moore's Jazzmasters... :)

1 High Output Pickup, 1 Volume Knob, Fixed Bridge, Reversed Headstock and a Deep Forest finish.. :) what do you guys think? :P

ok din, ano kaya kung yung deep forest finish black yung green highlights? maganda kaya yun? saka bakit mayroon pang pick up selector? tatangalin mo ba yun para vol knob lang? tapos yung overall coating flat para hindi makintab :)

great videos!
btw, share ko lang, i used to have this two years ago. got it from juggs & modified a little bit plus i changed the pup & tuners.. but i had to sell it because of financial reasons.

yep, it's an epiphone les paul junior. just like Billie Joe's. great guitar! simple, slick body and great neck shape..

fortunately, my uncle's going back here from the US and i pre-ordered another one, but will still have to change the Pickguard t tortoise, tuners to gotoh or grover or sperzels, pots to 500k and 250k and humbucker-sized p90 pups.. another project this December..

wheaw thats 1 hell of a sexy axe.!
haha nyways i never tried using lp jr. mas magaan ba siya sa ordinaryong lp?
i mean still heavy pa din ba?
kc i used to owned 1 lp special II,nagamit ko siya almost 2yrs narin. kaso its breakin' my back. i got back problems coz of it. im a very low guitar player kasi eh. as in todo ung strap sa dulo. (madali kasi mangawit kamay ko when medyo mid level ung guitar kapag nag papalmute)
aun kaya im using modified strats and and es333. which is magaan kasi semi hallow naman.

pareho siya ng feel like the SpecialII, pero a bit lighter. a little thicker ang neck. that was my 1st Les Paul.. i like it kasi it's different from a traditional Les Paul.. hehehehe.. it's a great buy! worth it!

my posts from: http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,149842.25.html

i agree with yearling.. rekta is the best!

but when gig amps suck, i use:

either my relic strat (sss kasi lead namin naka SG na, para hiwalay ang sound) or my H-H strat (kun kinakailangan).

Korg PitchBlack (wala pa)
BOSS SD-1 (Stacked MOD) - for simple OD/semi-Clean rhythms..
HardWire TL-2 (Metal Distortion) - versatile kasi, not nasal, from classic rock to metal ang versatility.
Boston FL-100 (Flanger) - i usually use for bridge parts of songs.
MXR 6-band EQ (wala pa) - as booster
MimicMAn (Delay) - for extra body of slow songs or just to add color to breaks.

by the way, Pop-Punk pala banda namin kaya mejo hindi hardcore.. kulitan lang, hehehehe..  :-D

sorry man, i beg to diasagree... hindi lang humbuckers.. i can till 'palm-mute' kahit single coils. in my 27years of holding a guitar, i could be wrong..

maybe Johnny Ramone too...

to each of his own.. different stroke for different folks.
just don't put it in general.

yan Hardcore Punk Rock from Great Britain! Anarchy in the UK!!!!

kaso.. Pop Punk lang kami eh.. cheesey..

me too. i'm enjoying this thread. i'm a Bluesman at hear but i play pop punk for fun and i just love the Energy. mejo i'm too old to play hardcore punk eh, kaya pop punk nalang para masaya..

i remember way back in the 80's.. mmm.. 1986 to be exact.. i was in third year high school and the punk scene was so ok! i mean, genres and fashion was something to look forward to everyday! punks were usually at SM north edsa, wearing creepers, ripped jeans, denim/leather jackets, ala pang DM's nun, kaya combat boots pa! we used either Beer or Egg white or spray-net to keep those maw-hawk or spikes up! chains and leathers were present and the shades na parang 'head-band'! whoah.. time warp. and the famous graffiti or vandals we do is usually the big 'A' with a circle around and a matching 'Anarchy in the UK' or 'Hardcore'.. we listen to cassettes then or to XB102. hehehe, dead ends, dead hungy, twisted red cross, GI & the Idiots, betrayed, Urban Bandits etc..

hehehehe.. those were the early days.. sample pics how my generation looks like before?  check these out..

hehehe.. yep, tanders na me..

i just wanna share:

Have you ever wondered what the Philippine Hardcore scene looks like in the 80s? Well, there is this great website that have detailed what was going on here in MANILA in the aspect of HARDCORE as we know. This KABAYAN of mine have written what was really happening in terms of the Underground scene here in the Philippines that would mezmerized you enough to reflect on it. I remember back in High School when there was this controversy regarding Satanic Groups that were spreading around bad vibes. One group in my vicinity was named "HAVOC" and this created rumors and deception back then. YUP!! I know someone who was even called on the Principal Office just to shed light on the HAVOC's matter. I may say it was one controversial issue indeed especially for Catholic Schools. Good thing it was resolved. Hmmmp!! There's was even a joke that time that "HAVOC" means HABA BUHOK (Long Hair in English). He He He!! So let's deviate for a while about NEW WAVE and let's travel back again to the late 70s and 80s but this time with a "KISS ASS" attitude". So for my blogpost today I decided to share this article to you guys from that very comprehensive website I'm talking about. PROUD TO BE PINOY!!

by: DR. STIRRING RHOD

http://docmuzic.blogspot.com/2008/10/philippines-80s-hardcore.html

or THE PUNK ROCK GUITAR THREAD.

Orignally the word "Punk" was a name of a magazine that was in circulation during the mid 70's that caters to the crowd of a bar in New York named CBGB (“Country Bluegrass Blues”). where the slits, patty smith, blonde, the ramones, television, MC5, the new york dolls, velvet underground etc. performs and were regulars. makakatugtog ka lang dun pag may originals ka, parang Dredd, now with the artists playing, sila lang ang usually laman ng "Punk Magazine", then eventually, when performing, the bar goers/followers call them "Punk Rock".

at first they dont like to be called as such. eventually, it is.. share ko lang.

notice the backgound of the Ramones.. hehehehe..

hehehe, korek! m thankful though for the two bands (Blink 182 & Green Day) for bringing it out, it's the fusion of the generations. old school sound + modern feel + modern/classic look + fun + attitude (a little lighter though) = their POP PUNK. now, specially blink, they brought out humor to the genre. although it's still popular music & not as pure as "Punk Rock", the roots are still in there.. and also, hehehe, another excuse for me (for my age) not to go Harcore.. hheheehhehe..

to add injury, kids these days often refer to as EMO as post-Punk or hardcore..  beg to disagree.. it's more like Gothic, parang when Souxie sounded punkish in the early days but became deep and gothic later.. oh well..

btw, you're right, Dez Cadena was the Vox during it's mid peak of their popularity.. and later on turned to guitar because of his worn-out-voice (wala kasing training daw..) then later on Rollins step on board.. mga 1981 siguro un.. hehe, i was 11 then..

anyway, baka ma-OT: pedal set up ko is :

BOSS SD-1 (stacked mod) > HardWire TL-2 > BE FL-100 > MimicMan Delay

but sometimes the TL-2 does the job alone! hehehehehe..

wow man..may mga mp3 ka ba ng punk bands nung 80's pa?sayang 1988 na ako nabuhay,di ko na naabutan
'scuse me while I kiss the sky!

i hope you guys could come. earth decay is a free show by the way. heres the tentative lineup:

its not a pure punk show though. rather, a sort-of bebefit show done in the spirit of diy punk with a variety of bands from indie, punk and hardcore.

kay arcee dude.

haha axe to fall is a great record. i can pm you the link to the album leak if you want.

punk was abrasive, undigestable, loud, violent and most of all, smart and independent back in the 70s and 80s. i only think converge are more than worthy of those same adjectives.

btw, my setup consists of the following:

Guitar> compressor >  signal splitter>

and signal is split into two:

a: splitter> liptone diablo distortion > amp1
b: splitter> liptone Jcm800 distortion >  amp2

amp1 is where i get my low and low mids. amp2 would by my treble and presence amp. on the assumption that each venue has at least two amps. i learned this from analyzing converge's live setup.

im currently using our vocallists mustang.

its totally punk to mess up your own songs :P

fun fact. In San Francisco, Hardcore punk shows during the 80s were often held at a place called Mabuhay Gardens: A Filipino owned restaurant and club.

here is Black Flag playing a live set in Mabuhay Gardens in 1981:
